Danish Team Championship 4/4

Week 22 had come and thereby time to find out who would be Team Champions of Denmark 2011.

The setting was Broager in south Denmark and the weather was amazing.

Going into this weekend PutterteamOdense (MPTO1) had a 1 point lead over Aalborg (AMK1).

3. place was gonna be a battle between Putterteam Odense's 2. Team who had a lead of 2 point to Gelsted (MGC). It was Gelsted that in the end won that fight and the bronze medals.

The fight to avoid relegation stood between Gladsaxe (GMK1) and OdenseMinigolf Club (OMC1), but with a deficit of 7 points is was almost a foregone conclusion that OMC1 would be relegated.

Play started with a chocker. MPTO 1 lost to Gelsted with a very bad round of 111 to 110. This meant that Aalborg took over the lead. Round 2 send another schockwavethrough the place when Aalborg lost to the young and hungry team from Gladsaxe. The momentum had switched once again in favor of MPTO1.

The victory for Gladsaxe also decided that OMC1 was relegated. The boys from Gladsaxe were ofc. Very happy and im sure they will be a force to reckon with in the years to come.

Meanwhile the fight for gold continued and both topteams won game 3. Now it was time for game 4.

MPTO1 vs OMC1 and AMK1 vs MPTO2.

The mathematistics was simple. A win to MPTO2 and MPTO1 would hand the gold to Putterteam for the first time in 3 years.

A farely easy win for MPTO1 meant all eyes were on the other match.

After a dodgy start Aalborg slowly crawled back and in the middle of the round they only trailed by 1 stroke. The last 9 lanes would decidewhether we would have a direct match for the gold in the last round of the year for the 3 year in a row. Aalborg had won on both occasions so it was clearly a scenario the team from Odense could be without. However it looked destined as AMK1 fought their way in front with a few lanes to go. It was clear that the nerves of both teams were stretched to the limit and a some personal mistakes decided the match. It all ended with MPTO2 winning with 3 strokes.

The victory handed the gold to their fellow club mates and for the first time in 3 years Putterteam Odense won the team champs.

The last round showed 2 topteams that were still firing on all cylinders, even though the fact that all had already been decided. 90 to 91 was the score in Putterteams favor and it meant that the overall final result for the season was a 5 point victory to MPTO1.

As earlier said OMC1 was relegated. Through most of the season Gelsted looked poised to get promotion, but Broager took full advantage of playing at home and won the promotion.

Best players individually was:

Allan Schwab and Vincent Huus with a score of 114

This concludes this years team championship I Denmark. Putterteam will proudly represent Denmark in the EC in Italy in the fall.
