ITALIA League: nothing changes, GSP Vergiate and GSP Cusano on top

ITALIA League: nothing changes, GSP Vergiate and GSP Cusano on top The first day of 2012 Italia League has been played last weekend in Cusano Milanino, miniaturegolf system.

The tournament has been played on a very rainy day, but thanks to the tents placed by Italian minigolf Federation all lanes could be covered and played in dry and almost perfect conditions.

It seems that nothing has changed since last year. The male team of GSP Vergiate and the ladies team of GSP are again the best after this first day.

Nevertheless, the male competition should be more interesting and balanced in the past, because of an important club transfer: one of the top Italian players of the last 10 years, Paolo Porta, is now playing these team events with GSP Cusano. (In Italy the rules allow clubs to borrow players only for the team events).
With this transfer, GSP Cusano surely expects to be more competitive and started the home event with the hope to win it.

After the first rounds this seemed to be possible, with the home team leading the way and GSP Vergiate only 4th. But in the next rounds the big experience of Vergiate players, bronze medalists at the last European Team Cup, allowed the team to get the first place that they were able to defend until the end of the tournament.
GSP Cusano, seeing that they could not win the match, lost a little bit of concentration and ended 3rd, overtaken also by MC Monza by just one stroke.
Just out of the podium, MT Amatese was also very close to the other 3 teams.
The other two teams, MC Basilischi and GSP Sebino could not have any chance to compete with the best 4 teams.
Here the final ranking of the men event:

1 G.S.P.VERGIATE 147 136 139 135 557 23,2
2 M.C. MONZA 145 141 143 135 564 23,5
3 G.S.P. CUSANO 140 149 137 139 565 23,5
4 M.T. AMATESE 146 140 145 140 571 23,8
5 M.C. I BASILISCHI MILANO 158 155 151 151 615 25,6
6 G.S.P. SEBINO 181 162 170 159 672 28,0

As ever, no history in the ladies event with the big domination of GSP Cusano, that won with 32 strokes advantages on MC Monza and 34 on MMC Paderno.

Here the ranking of the ladies event:

1 G.S.P. CUSANO 72 71 85 69 297 24,8
2 M.C. MONZA 82 82 84 81 329 27,4
3 M.M.C. PADERNO 83 85 89 74 331 27,6

GSP Cusano could also celebrate the victories in the two individual rankings, with Paolo Porta taking the top place in the men ranking with 86 strokes (21-22-22-21) and Anna Bandera doing the same in the ladies ranking with 92 strokes (22-23-26-21).
No blue rounds in this quite difficult course.

These are the top 10 men players of the tournament:

1 Paolo Porta GSP Cusano 21 22 22 21 21,5 1 86
2 Roberto Garbui GSP Vergiate 23 22 21 20 21,5 3 86
3 Stefano Piccini MT Amatese 22 21 21 23 21,8 2 87
4 Emanuele Prestinari GSP Cusano 22 22 21 23 22,0 2 88
5 Lorenzo Levis GSP Vergiate 23 23 21 22 22,3 2 89
6 Rudi Giroldini GSP Vergiate 22 22 23 23 22,5 1 90
7 Cristian Pinton MC Monza 21 22 23 24 22,5 3 90
8 Luca Dellasega MC Monza 22 25 24 21 23,0 4 92
9 Gioachino Ricchiuto MC Monza 25 25 21 21 23,0 4 92
10 Boris Arzuffi MT Amatese 22 23 23 25 23,3 3 93

And these are the top 5 ladies players:

1 Anna Bandera GSP Cusano 22 23 26 21 23,0 5 92
2 Sara Marchiani GSP Cusano 24 22 27 22 23,8 5 95
3 Anna Catanzaro MMC Paderno 25 24 25 25 24,8 1 99
4 Claudia Baio MC Monza 24 28 24 27 25,8 4 103
5 Antonella Villa MC Monza 26 26 27 29 27,0 3 108

The next stage of the league will be played on 6th May in Vergiate.
