Schwarz, Heyl and two times Inmann in Austrian Championships

The Austrian Championships of general and youth classes took place from 17th to 20th of July on the course in Wiener Neustadt. The courses are not very popular for club players and for almost all players it was first time they played there. It is an old concrete course with flat metal bends and also an old eternity course. Both courses were not easy to play and for a lot of people it was a new experience to play on courses where it is VERY hard to reach blue rounds.

There were 4 double rounds from Wednesday to Friday and then match play for best 32 male youth players and men and best 16 female youth players and women.

In case of the difficulty of these courses there were expected big gaps between some rounds and you could never feel secure even when leading with several points.

So in the female kids category Sina Rosspeintner played once 23 on eternit (the only green round in this category) and 33 on concrete and lead from this time and won surprisingly at her first Austrian Championship.

In the male kids category there were an expected fight between 2 young stars Per Pucher from Klaus and Thomas Lottermoser from Bischofshofen.

At the end Thomas Lottermoser won this fight in case of the best result on concrete 118 (29,5) overall categories, also general class, with 223 and a gap of 16 points before Per Pucher.

The junior women class was expected a fight between the 3 experienced players Martina Danner Martina, Jennifer Helm and Lara Jehle.

By changing leader position several times at the end Jennifer Helm won with 232 before Danner (237) and Jehle (238).

The junior men were dominated by the title defender Julian Weibold. He played the only blue round in this category and from this moment he never gave back his leader position.

He won with 221 points and a gap of 7 points to second Stefan Lochmahr and 1 point more before Leichtfried

The youth team competition was dominated from Bundesland Vorarlberg. The kids team comp was won by UBGC Hörbranz with record margin of 101 points before the second team.

The juniors team competition became a thrilling end, but was won by the title defender UBGC Bludenz with 14 points before MGC Bischofshofen and on 3rd position another 5 points behind the long time 2nd placed BGSC Klaus.

At Saturday there was played the Matchplay finals by mixing both male categories and also both female categories.

And in this competition there were surprising winners and results. Youth world Champion Lara Jehle was storming into half final with 8:1 and 8:2, but then was stopped from almost perfect playing Sabrina Newland by loosing 2:4.

Also Jennifer Helm had free ticket in first round, then won 6:1, but in half final she had a hard fight with Vanessa Vierlinger. She was 4:6 already behind, but won last 2 lanes to 6:6 and then won sudden death on first lane for going into final with 7:6. But Sabrina Newland could continue with her good playing and she won almost safety with 7:4 over Jennifer Helm and was a well-deserved winner of this matchplay comp.

In junior mens matchplay were some unexpected loosers already in first round as for example last years winner Fabian Spies loosing by 5:7. The Dominator in Strokeplay Junilan Weibold went into final easily by safety winnings of 6:1, 7:1, 5:2 and 7:3. So he was big favourite for the victory playing against male kid Per Pucher, who fighted hardly into final with 5:4, 7:5, 6:5 and 5:4. In knowing about his strong fights he continued with a very well played final and left no chances for Julian Weibold and won 5:1! So it is second year in a row when a male kid won the matchplay of juniors.

In general class women it looked for long time that Champ of 2012, Manuela Zojer, could defend her title. Before last round she was leading 6 points before Sandra Schwarz and 7 before Lisa Gruber. But the difficulty of the concrete course threw Zojer into a very bad start by no ace and 4 mistakes and a standing of 4 up after 10 lanes while Schwarz had the opposite and a great start with 5 down after 10 lanes. So Zojer already lost her leader position after 10 lanes and couldnt fight back until the end. So the surprising winner was Sandra Schwarz with green final round of 28 and summary of 222 before Zojer with final round of 36 and summary of 224 another 2 points behind was Lisa Gruber on 3rd place.

In mens category there was no player with just green rounds and just one blue round of 19 played by Gaida Bernd.

This shows the difficulty of these 2 courses. After first day Günter Inmann and Bernd Gaida were leading with 80, just 2 points behind were surprise of this competition Rainer Anhammer with 82. After 2nd day it seemed to become a fight between Inmann 149 and Gaida 150 before Manfred Lindmayr 156. At the final day Gaida started bad with 27 on eternit, so Inmann was leading already 7 points to him before final concrete round. But as we see in womens class this could change fast. And it almost happened the same. Inmann had a bad start and was 2 up after 7 lanes while Lindmayr and almost all others behind him had a much better start. At the end in was worst round for Inmann with just 3 aces and 35, but in case that no other came into a big run, he won his 7th Austrian single title 3 points before Gaida B. and another 1 point more for Lindmayr M.

At Saturday there was matchplay competition with a lot of surprising losts in 2nd round. From set list nr. 1 Schwarz lost in 4:6, nr. 2 Zojer 4:5 and nr. 4 Irxenmayer 5:6. Just Gruber Lisa as nr. 3 came into half final with 5:4 and 4:2. But she also lost in half final 3:4, so the surprising final was named Utzig Bianca vs. Heyl Angelika which was won by Heyl A. with 5:3. The bronze fight was also surprisingly won by Pajer Petra with 5:4 against Gruber L.

In mens matchplay nr. 2 B. Gaida lost in first round already with 4:6 against Jochum B., in 2nd round nr. 3 Lindmayr M. lost 4:6 against Matthias Moschinger. And in quarter final nr. 4 Steiner Adriano lost 3:7 against Brauner Florian. Just nr. 1 from strokeplay Inmann G. could reach into final with 6:3, 4:1, 5:4 and 5:2. His competitor was surprising good playing Lackner Andreas (nr. 18 from strokeplay) which reached final with winnings of 6:5, 5:4, 6:1 and 5:0. The final game was a very high level played final. Inmann G. made 8 aces on 9 concrete lanes and Lackner 5 of 9. With a standing of 3:0 for Inmann they went to eternit. But Inmann G. showed his very best game and made just aces on next 6 lanes and won with an impressive 5:0 and just one missing ace on 15 matchplay lanes his 8th Austrian title (record in winning single titles in general mens category in Austria!). The bronze game was a thrilling fight between Moschinger Matthias and Brauner Florian until the last lane by winning 4:3 of „matchplay killer“ Moschinger M.
