News report by Günter Inmann:

From 16th to 19th of August the Austrian Youth Championships took place at the new courses in Voitsberg, Styria, homeclub and owner of this nice location is Gobetz Christian.

It was played on a felt course with metal bends and an eternit course with an interesting order and choice of obstacles. Modus for strokeplay was 4 rounds on every course and after this 32 male juniors and 16 female juniors (mixed juniors and pupils) played the matchplay competition.

In case of pretty new and not experienced courses the single rounds were rising up and down a lot. It was a tough challenge for all players, but they are fair and really selective courses. The temperatures from 30 – 35 degrees gave this competition the same strength as the small, but heavy rain breaks almost every afternoon. In this landscape it´s usual to have some thunder and lightning storms in such hot conditions.

At the end there were some good results and the ones who won had the best performances over all rounds. Interesting fact was that in all 4 youth categories it was a battle of the top 3 players with a big margin to the 4th ranked.

In female pupils class there brought out a surprise of upcoming Zitz Lisa Marie 274 (27,25/41,25) by winning in strokeplay 1 point before Stoiber Lisa 275 (30,25/38,50) and another 10 in front of Krinninger Lisa Maria 285 (30,75/40,50). The male pupils got not so big surprises, so Pucher Per 248 (29,25/32,75) won 4 points before Berchtel Marco 252 (27,50/35,50) and another 6 in front of Haberl Florian 258 (30,25/34,25), the just 11 (!) year aged son of World Champion Haberl Evelyn.

In Junior class it was the expected battle between the well experienced Jehle Lara and Danner Martina. 2 rounds before the end it seemed to be a single run of Martina, but on felt Lara could take back 10 points in second last round, so it was a tough match until the end and the last lane. Martina with 248 (27,75/32,25) won just one point before Lara 249 (27,00/35,25), on 3rd place already 17 points behind Lara was Newland Sabrina with 266 (30,00/36,5).

Also the male juniors had no surprises with the top 3 players, by winning of Weibold Julian, 229 (25,00/32,25) strokes just one before Spies Fabian 230 (24,75/32,75) and another 3 in front of Lochmahr Stefan with 233 (25,25/33,00).

The pupils teams won UBGC Hörbranz for the 2nd time in a row, same as UBGC Bludenz the juniors team.

In the Matchplay last years winner Newland Sabrina came again into the final with a 8:2, 7:6, 8:3 and had to play against Danner Martina which reached the final with a freerun, 8:2, 7:3. Martina started with a perfect game on eternit of 9 aces and a 5:0 to felt and at the end she won 7:2. Bronze won again the shooting star Zitz Lisa Marie with 5:4.

The Juniors Matchplay final was a match of Spies Fabian (free run, 5:2, 4:3, 6:5) and Lottermoser Thomas (7:1, 7:2, 4:1, 5:4) and at the end a winning of 5:3 for Spies F. Bronze medalist is Lochmahr Stefan with a 6:5 in the small final.
