Education Through Miniature Golf - Part 1

As we've shown recently, miniature golf can be many things - art, architecture, compliments to food - but one thing it is at it's core is educational. Kids might be on their summer break right now but they don't need to stop learning. The sport of minigolf is a combination of physics and geometry. Every putt you make has you calculating force and many shots have you looking at angles and the overall laws of motion. That's why its ripe for a teaching material in these areas such as some of the teaching lessons The Putter King has provided in the past.
However, there is a lot more to the educational aspect of minigolf beside understanding the angles of incidence and reflection. Educational concepts can be wound between putting a round. One example is from the Kauai Minigolf and Botanical Gardens where one can learn about the history of Hawaii through its diverse flora. It by far has the most amazing set of plant life I've ever seen on a minigolf course!
One school in the United States has taken this even further, marrying miniature golf with an educational concept with the hands-on education of building your own course. The linked article talks about how one school spent weeks coming up with holes outlining how invasive species (plants or animals) can be detrimental to an environment and/or economy. Each species had to be incorporated into a hole they designed and built themselves. While these holes might not be championship caliber, anything that keeps miniature golf in the forefront of children's minds is a benefit to the sport in the long run. It's also a great reason why its clear the sport of minigolf, unlike so many other professional sports, is so accessible to people of all ages and skills.
