While other tournaments in the US this past weekend battled heat, the 2nd Annual Lake Auburn Open in Maine battled cool, wet conditions. The Lake Auburn Open is a two round tournament played at Taber's Golf in Auburn, ME and is open to anyone with a $500 top cash prize.
Matt Myrick, playing in his first Lake Auburn Open, shot a blistering 3-under 38 on the first 18 and followed it up with a shaky but effective 44 on the second 18 for a 82 total score to win this years event by 2 strokes over Cam Bradbury. That earned Matt a $500 payday while Cam took $300 for second place. Bradbury was consistent in his two rounds, shooting 42 both times around the course.
Justin Pelletier took 3rd place with an 86 and 3 players tied for 4th with 87's Alex Gaeth, Sean Boulanger and Paul Vail. Trailing by 3 after the first 18, Gaeth was in the final pairing with Myrick and applied some pressure on the young 22 year old with 3 hole-in-ones on the front nine, but took a dreaded 6 on 10 that he could not overcome.
The tournament was $20 to enter which included a practice round any day before the event. $500 was awarded to 1st place $300 to 2nd, $100 to 3rd, $75 to 4th and $50 to 5th.
