Interview with Nicole Piechotta (NP),Germany and Göttingen
This interview was done the 30th of October 2012. Interviewer is Hans Bergström (HB).
HB: First of all a big congratulation to your phenomenal results in Vizela. Have these successes and all the world records sunk in yet and you are back in normal life?
NP: Thank you for the congratulations. Unfortunately, I was returned too fast in my normal life, which is also the reason I answered these questions so late. I wanted to enjoy this great feeling of having played this great tournament a little longer.
HB: Can you tell our readers a little bit on who is Nicole Piechotta?
NP: I´m 30 years old and at my 12th Birthday I started to play Minigolf. I started my career at BGS Hardenberg Pötter and since 2003 I´m playing for the 1.MGC Göttingen.
HB: Your team Göttingen had a quite close struggle with your fellow German Team Mainz for the EC-title. In the end you could win with 8 strokes after winning the last two laps with 10 strokes. Can you tell us about this German battle for the title?
NP: We know the Mainz team very well from the German League and the past has shown us that we usually are in close battles in competitions. Therefore we were prepared that it would be a hard fight. But we believed that we will be the winners at the end of the day. At the end it was a great victory.
HB: You played very well and had i.e. an even lap with the world record of 22 on one lap of beton. In this lap you missed lane 17. Did you know about that you had a chance to set a new world record for ladies of 21?
NP: No, I didn´t knew that a 21 would be a new World Record. Through the whole tournament I never thought about any Records. The only thing I wanted was to win the Cup with my Team and for this I wanted to give all my best on the course.
HB: Also you broke a the old record of 8 lap with 9 strokes to set a new record of 208 (26,0). Was this the tournament of your life so far?
NP: That has definitely been the tournament of my life. I really wanted this title for my team and somehow that inspires me. I felt really safe and strong as I have only done some few times in the past. Already from the first lane I was 100% in the tournament and was not disturbed by anything although it was all a tough fight. It did not happen by itself.
HB: You did not participate in the Stockholm last year or in the European Championships this year. Can you tell us why?
NP: Unfortunately I was very sad that I was not selected the last two years. And still I´m very disappointed about the decisions by the coaches.
HB: Are your ambitions to be part of the German Team for Bad Munder next year?
NP: It was an exciting year for me with the MGC Göttingen. But decisions about the future I will make later this winter. It takes a lot of energy to really present all your best and energy and at the end not to be taken into account.
HB: Do you think that the current modus with team play, stroke play and match play in the international tournaments is a good one?
NP: Honestly spoken it should be in first priority a team competition and I think it´s sad that the last team rounds were cancelled to install two individual titles. Of course, the match play is more interesting for spectators but honestly, how many people, who do not come from the Minigolf, have we gained as spectators by doing this change?
HB: What happens next for you in Minigolf?
NP: The first priority is the defense of the German league title with my “Göttinger Mädels”. And after that, of course, preparing to defend the European Cup title that will be played in October 2013 in the Czech Republic.
HB: If you could choose one international (non-German) player to play for you club Göttingen who would that be?
NP: If I am totally free in my decision I really would enjoy playing together with Karin Wiklund.
HB: Thank you for taking this interview and good luck in the future!
NP: Thank you very much.
