Lane types of Odense minigolf courses announced
08 Jul 2009 at 21:44 | Published by: JJM | Views: 8737 | News search
The organizers of Minigolf World Championships 2009 in Odense, Denmark, have announced the lane types and lane order of the two minigolf courses, which will be installed at Fyn Arena in August 2009.
The organizers have chosen relatively difficult lane types, avoiding the easiest lane types in WMF rulebook. Also the order of lanes is not quite traditional.
We have compiled drawings of the lane types. Some of the lanes can possibly be mirror-images of the versions that are seen in our drawings.

09 Jul 2009 at 14:50 | I hope that the organizers will publish yet more precise information, which mirror image version they plan to use of each felt lane (corner, lightning, inclined gate etc.), and how near the walls or center the twin gates will be in lane 9. |

09 Jul 2009 at 09:46 | Actually the report says that lane 9 on felt is "twin gates". I am not sure how near the sides or center the two gates will be.
In Finland these two variants are two separate lane types: "side gates (near the walls)" and "twin gate (near the center of lane)". In WMF rulebook they seem to be one and the same lane type.
Swedish slide is OK when the lane breaks in a regular way. When the lane breaks in irregular ways, it becomes a tactical choice, do you accept 2 points or take a risk and try hole-in-one. With limited practice time and no guarantees how the newly-installed lane will change during the week after installation, 2 points option sounds worth practicing. |

09 Jul 2009 at 09:45 | @JJM: Lane 9 on the felt isn't actually side gates if you look at the WMF document. The lane is WMF no. 32, which is twin gates (lane 9 in MunktellArenan) and that one is really good. I also noted that the box-lane is 18m, that is long. :) |

09 Jul 2009 at 09:30 | Looks interesting, especially the last 6 on the eternite. Regarding the felt, I haven't played the narrow slide for a lot of years and I'm still to play one that is actually good. Let's hope this will be the first.
And for all players sake I hope that the board is good and smooth for lane 9, as side gates with small side obstacles (as the drawing suggests) is right up there in my top 3 of worst felt lanes ever designed.
The order of the lanes is very well done to create the most difficult combination available with these lanes.
