Austrian Junior Championships 2009

Austria 21 Jul 2009 at 10:13 | Published by: JJM | Views: 6836 | News search

Austrian Junior Championships 2009 Austrian Junior Championships 2009 was played on 16–19 July at Franz Koci-Strasse beton and eternite courses in Wien. In modern Austrian style, championship medals were awarded both in strokeplay (8 rounds) and in matchplay cup.

Thomas Obertaxer successfully defended his champion title from last year in strokeplay, with average 21.00 on eternite and 30.25 on beton. Mario Dangl played the same total score, but Obertaxer drew the longer straw in sudden death play-off. Marc Cervinka was third best in juniors, only one point behind the gold and silver medalists.

Matthias Grossmann won schoolboys strokeplay competition, with average 23.50 on eternite and 31.00 on beton. Markus Danner was second, 5 points behind Grossmann, after tied score and sudden death play-off against Philip Leichtfried.

Last year’s silver medalist Karin Heschl took gold in female juniors’ strokeplay, with average 22.25 on eternite and 29.75 on beton. Bianca Utzig was second, 5 points behind Hescl, and Nicole Pelinka was third, quite massively 32 points behind Utzig.

The third best female player of the strokeplay competition was schoolgirls gold medalist Jennifer Helm, with average 23.00 on eternite and 31.00 on beton. Martina Danner was second in schoolgirls, 4 points behind Jennifer, and Lara Jehle was third, one point behind Danner.

The knock-out competition for male juniors and female juniors (without separate age groups for schoolchildren) was interrupted because of rain, when male juniors had played two knock-out rounds, and female juniors never even started their knock-out competition. For this reason, the medalists in female juniors’ "matchplay" were simply the three best players of strokeplay competition: Karin Heschl, Bianca Utzig and Jennifer Helm.

The second best player of male juniors’ strokeplay, Mario Dangl, lost a knock-out match before the tournament was interrupted, so the medalists in male juniors matchplay were the 1st, 3rd and 4th best players of strokeplay competition: Thomas Obertaxer, Marc Cervinka and Christoph Schatzer.
