Minigolfnews on site in Odense

Denmark 20 Aug 2009 at 22:14 | Published by: Hans | Views: 9168 | News search

Minigolfnews on site in Odense This afternoon Minigolfnews reporter Hans Bergström arrived on site in Odense. First impressions are that it is warm here. Outside the Arena its 30 degrees in the shade and inside its almost 27 degrees. Not any ideal conditions for Minigolf.

In this heat some players like Fredrik Persson and Lars Brown in the Swedish Team have felt slightly sick today. CJ Ryner says the most important thing to cope with the heat is to drink lots and avoid misses.

In a chat with Austrian Head Coach Christian Gobetz he reveals that he is really happy with how his teams perform. He especially hopes that the ladies can keep their current silver position. He says the had high team moral to get to this position in spite of their horrible start with a substitute already the first day.

German Head Coach Michael Neuland is not so happy with his teams. The men’s are doing slightly worse than in training, but he admit that even with their best game they haven’t been able to beat Sweden as they are playing. Especially the eternit has been a bit disappointing for the men’s team. The ladies have had a really hard time on the felt and Neuland say its been though to see their struggle with their game that has been far from normal for the girls.

WMF Sport Director, Gerhard Zimmermann, is happy with the arrangements but he doesn’t like the temperature in the hall. He says that the arena has fan driven ventilation but that they say it’s making too much noise so they keep it shot off.

If you have questions about what is happeing here I will try to answer them in the forum.

I was wrong stating the Arena has Air-Conditioning. It is actually only fan-driven ventilation that will not make that much effect when outdoor temperature is also very hot. Its corrected in the text.

This is typical for indoor minigolf courses that the temperature is lower in the morning, after the long night without anyone inside, and then the temperature (and usually also humidity) rises during the day, as people are breathing and sweating inside there.

I definitely is warm inside the hall. It has been all week, except maybe the last practise day and the first day of the tournament.
Conditions didnt change that much to make a lot of difference in the play. And Paolo, playing 32 with only 2-3 bad shots? Please, have more self-criticism then that....

Let me remind you that outside the temperature went from 16 degrees in the morning to 31 degrees outside. During the week it has been raining, there has been constand wind of between 3 - 5 m/sek. and now players are complaining of a rise in temperature of under 4 degrees. Let me remind me that less than 2 weeks ago, the juniors wasent able to finish their championship because of bad weather.

There cant be any doubt that the advantages of playing indoor are much bigger than the disadvantages.

I got some data from coaches who were at Fyn Arena yesterday. I was told these statistics:
at 09:00 o'clock -- 22.5°C, 45% humidity
at 12:00 o'clock -- 25.0°C, 45% humidity
at 17:00 o'clock -- 26.3°C, 45% humidity

I speculated already one month ago (21 Jul 2009 at 10:54) in our forum "World Championships 2009 - Odense (Denmark)", page 5:

"No air conditioning? Sounds like the temperature will be 18 degrees in the morning, and something between 20 and 25 degrees in the afternoon. Might depend on the weather outside too."

Please let me forget what happened today during the last eternite round. The hall was on fire with very high temperature and humidity rate and I got a 32 with only 2-3 real bad shots. On most of lanes I didn't understand what happened. I'm really angry for that because until that I played an almost perfect tournament (at least for my hopes) with 12th place and good average and now I'm falling down in 25th place.
I've seen many big players in real troubles during this round...
I drank almost 1 lt only during the last eternite round...

I heard somewhere that temperature inside the hall would have been constant for all the tournament but this absolutely hasn't happened...
