Odense, day 3: Sweden takes 2 x team gold

Odense, day 3: Sweden takes 2 x team gold

German women’s seven straight years on the gold podium (2002–2008) ended to a bronze position in Odense 2009, as Sweden took gold and Austria took the silver medals. Sweden was the best team on both minigolf courses in Odense, felt and eternite, leaving no questions about who deserves to be minigolf world champion 2009.

Switzerland and Netherlands had realistic medal hopes before the last 2 rounds, both of them only 14 points behind Germany. Netherlands fell from the medal battle to 6th place in the final day, with two quite catastrophic black team rounds. Switzerland stayed in the pace of Germans during the eternite round in the morning, but in the final felt round Germans went their way, and left Switzerland far behind to 4th place.

WOMEN’S TEAMS, final standings:

  1.   71  106   68  114   71  101   68  115  =  714  Sweden
  2.   77  125   68  107   77  112   72  121  =  759  Austria
  3.   76  115   69  133   70  122   76  113  =  774  Germany
  4.   87  120   78  125   72  117   76  127  =  802  Switzerland
  5.   78  127   83  110   86  126   87  118  =  815  Italy
  6.   78  137   77  120   77  110   91  135  =  825  Netherlands
  7.   87  144   88  144   76  131   82  143  =  895  Denmark
  8. 104  162   95  146 106  132   96  131  =  972  Japan

Also in men’s competition Sweden was the best team on both minigolf courses, felt and eternite. After two days Sweden looked like it was marching to a win margin around 100 points, but Germany fought back in the final day, winning Sweden in both last rounds, and reducing the score difference to 60 points "only". Austrians had some silver hopes before the last day, but the excellent game of Germany in the last day simply didn't leave much chances for Austrians.

MEN’S TEAMS, final standings:

  1.  191  129  184  143  181  138  199  139  =  1304  Sweden
  2.  214  139  206  135  199  146  190  135  =  1364  Germany
  3.  208  144  207  149  213  137  201  133  =  1392  Austria
  4.  225  147  199  154  236  135  224  137  =  1457  Switzerland
  5.  230  150  212  147  211  154  243  152  =  1499  Finland
  6.  222  146  219  160  229  153  237  146  =  1512  Italy
  7.  253  160  251  150  237  147  228  149  =  1575  Denmark
