Rookies of the Year: Filiph Svensson and Maria Olsson

Sascha Spreier of Germany was the best newcomer after 8 rounds strokeplay in Odense, ranked 11th in men. Two other first-timers, Marco Henning (Germany) and Filiph Svensson (Sweden) were tied 12th, one point behind Spreier. In the matchplay Filiph Svensson went all the way to the silver podium, earning the title of Rookie of the Year 2009.

In women’s competition Maria Olsson of Sweden was the best newcomer, ranked 8th after 8 rounds strokeplay, and 6th after the matchplay cup.

I also think that the 17 years old Oskari Vihervaara earns a recognition here. Having only played 3 years I been told he was 18th after the preliminary rounds and then won against Walter Erlbruch and Anders Olsson ending in a final 8th place. Hats off!
