Mark / Wietlisbach win Bassersdorf Marathon

As usual, the 30 hours marathon played on the 80% indoor Bongni course place in Grindel sport centre in Bassersdorf (CH) had been a very high level tournament, with 51 pairs coming from Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Finland and Italy.

This year the victory went to the pair Raphael Wietlisbach (CH - Eichholz) and Sascha Mark (D - Ahreilgen), team which was formed just a few days before the tournament because each player missed the usual partner for this tournament.

Raffi and Sadi took a very brilliant victory after a great match with other two pair: Vitus Spescha (CH - Muhlematt) / Cedric Mathys (CH - Olten) and Michael Eggenschwiler / Sonja Viatte (both CH - Grenchen).

They didn't start so well in the first rounds with also some "red" score (32, 31) which are not so good on this course to fight for top places. But they made a great 2nd part of marathon and took the lead of the tournament at around the 20th round.
They scored a total of 648 strokes ( 25.92 average), 5 better than Spescha/Mathys, who were leading tied before the last round and who were probably the top favourite pair for the final victory

Then in the last round Sascha played 26 in front of the 31 from Vitus and took the 5 decisive points for the victory.

3rd place for Eggenschwiler/Viatte, who lead the earlier part of the marathon (until round 18) and ended just one stroke behind Spescha/Mathys.

The 1st team scored 4x 23 rounds and 4x 24 rounds
The 2nd team scored 3x 23 rounds and 6x 24 rounds
The 3rd team scored 1x 23 round and 4x 24 rounds

The best round of the tournament was scored by the team Stoparic / Hermann with 22 strokes.

The best Austrian team ended in 4th place with Michael Gebetshammer/Reinhard Schuster, both from MGC Bischofshofen, with a total score of 662 strokes ( 26.48 average)
The best Italian team ended in 11th place with Paolo Porta (MGC Novi Ligure) / Claudio Santopietro (GSP Cusano), with a total score of 691 strokes ( 27.64 average)
The best Finnish team ended in 18th place with Timo Metsäranta / Aki Sillman, both from MGC Sibeliuspark with a total score of 701 strokes ( 28.04 average).

Here the summary of the final ranking:

1. WIETLISBACH R. / MARK S. 648 (25.92)
