Cusano ladies has done it, Vergiate men almost

Italy 08 Jun 2010 at 10:18 | Published by:  | Views: 7586 | News search

Cusano ladies has done it, Vergiate men almost The 3rd day of ITALIA League has been played on miniaturegolf course in Novi Ligure.

It has been a very high level tournament, with several "18" rounds and some other course records, which were allowed by the course, one of the best miniaturegolf courses in Italy, but also by the very good preparation that all teams had for this tournament.

As regards the ladies tournament, we already have a definitive result: GSP Cusano, making the 3 out of 3 day victories, had already got the ticket to play Europa Cup 2011 in Vergiate: when only one tournament is missing (Italian Championships in Predazzo) they have 13 points advantage on the second team, GSP Lozza. The team who will win in Predazzo gets 12 points, so no one can reach GSP Cusano at the top of the ranking.

Also this day was without history for ladies teams: GSP Cusano won with 272 strokes (22.7 avg) with a big margin on the home team MGC Novi Ligure, which got a surprising second place with 303 strokes (25,2 avg) . 3rd place for GSP Lozza with 318 strokes (26,5 avg) .

The men tournament was as usual very exciting with a big match between three teams: GSP Vergiate, GSP Cusano and MGC Novi Ligure.
In the previous day in Cusano, MGC Novi Ligure won with 4 strokes advantage on GSP Cusano and 5 on GSP Vergiate.
In Novi Ligure, GSP Vergiate won with 1 stroke advantage on GSP Cusano and 5 on MGC Novi Ligure.

That means that if we sum the two tournament, all three teams have the exact same total stroke amount! We can really say 3 teams on the same level.

GSP Vergiate won this day thanks to an unbelievable last round of 119 strokes , which let them recover from the 3rd place to the top, with just 1 stroke margin on GSP Cusano. A really exciting match, with the two "Nr. 6" of Vergiate and Cusano, Ivan Baruscotti and Pierluigi Marchiani, that both played 18 in the final round.
It is the first time that an Italian team get a "Blue" round in national tournament for 6-players teams.
This little single stroke is probably decisive for the final victory of the league: now Vergiate is leading with 4 points advantage on GSP Cusano and 9 points on MGC Novi Ligure. If the victory would have gone to GSP Cusano, we would have had GSP Cusano in the lead with 2 points advantage on GSP Vergiate.

Now in the final day in Predazzo there's only one hope for GSP Cusano to win the league: winning the italian Championships and hoping that another team makes a better result that GSP Vergiate getting the 2nd place.
There will be some very hot days in Predazzo in 3 weeks!

As regards individual results, the best player of the day was Roberto Garbui (who was playing as substitute of GSP Vergiate) which got a total score of 79 strokes and expecially made the new course record on 2 rounds with a double-18 with an incredible sequence of 47 aces in a row! .
Second place for Ivan Baruscotti (GSP Vergiate) with 80 strokes and 3rd place to Lorenzo Ciompi (MGC Novi Ligure), after a playoff with Pierluigi Marchiani (GSP Cusano), both scoring a total of 81 strokes . Lorenzo was also the best youth player of the day.
Best ladies player of the day was Anna Bandera (GSP Cusano) with 87 strokes , 2nd place for Sara Marchiani (GSP Cusano with 90 strokes and 3rd place for Tiziana Chiaravalli (MGC Novi Ligure) with 93 strokes

Now all teams are already looking forward to Italian team and individual championships that will take place in Predazzo on 26th-27th June.
