There are about 300 recesses on one golf ball, and thanks to them, the ball flies three times farther than a smooth one. ... Balls of the same size...

Problems in Uppsala
30 Jan 2009 at 12:44 | Posted in: General | Views: 2594 | Comments: 5
Why would I report any internal problems in my club here? Sorry to disappoint you all, but it's no problem in the club. The problem is of a more difficult kind.
Most of you have never been to Uppsala and even fewer of you have been to our course. We have a total of 54 lanes (18 felt, 18 eternite and 18 adventure felt) and a big nice house. With a lot of visitors each year which play, eat and drink for us to get a nice little profit. We can afford to pay travel costs, food and hotel for all players when there's a team competition even in these tough economic times we're in right now. The thing that might put a wrench in all this is that the city wants to build a bridge over the small river that runs 10m outside our course. Another bridge is nice, but not when it's planned to be built right through our house.
We understand that something has to be done with the traffic situation, but why not place the bridge and road just outside our course, where there's a lot of unused space? Hopefully the town council will take the standard amount of time (it took 17 years to decide on a bypass of the city and a further 8 to complete it) for this kind of work. If not, then we're in a lot of trouble as I'd be very surprised if we were to get any kind of help in moving our course (and house!!!) to a new location.
Being a sound believer in all of Murphy's laws, I'll go by one of the extreme ones in this situation: If there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the one that will cause the most damage will be the one to go wrong.

We have also problems with our local council in Odense. Pretty many years ago we bought some feltcourses, which we want to be at the the harbour. There's a lotf of stuff going on down there, so it's a great place to be, because we would probably get a nice little profit too. And then we hopefully would be able to pay all the players expanses like you in Uppsala. But the thing is that, that the ground we were promised still not is ours. Even though the plannings said it would be done in 2006 and latest in 2008. But I guess minigolf isn't the first priority in very many cities :)

Btw. do you have any indoor-course in Uppsala ? Or do you practice in Munktell?

It sounds as it will be done within the next 2 years. I think they have to find new ground for us, but as far as I know they don't have to help us with moving the lanes or houses. We'll work something out in the end. I hope...

Are they not obliged to help you with moving and finding a new place, including economic help, if they now would force you away?

I know that Kungälvs BGK will have a new bus station built where their courses are now, but - as far as I know - they get all possible help.

Anyway, hope it works out in the best way, and as you said it might take some years... ;-)

Small world. We have similar stupidity in the USA, and Murphy too. Good luck to you with this problem.
