There are about 300 recesses on one golf ball, and thanks to them, the ball flies three times farther than a smooth one. ... Balls of the same size...

The Bad, The Good, and The Average
Podium in Taunton

This is a short recap of the last 3 events I played.

Sidcup, BMGA British Masters
We had a nice, sunny weekend… well until Sunday when it was freezing. The practice wasn’t bad on Saturday, but during the tournament, I just didn’t find my A-game. We didn’t become friends with the metal rims, I missed a lot of putts on them narrowly. I changed my game plan for a few holes and most of the changes didn’t work. Hard to say a lot more about this event, here is the result:

Taunton, Ace of Hearts Open
The next stop was Taunton. Years ago, it was part of the BMGA tour, but not recently, so for most of us, it was a new experience, and I like these courses where my opponents don’t have a huge knowledge about the holes. I took 2 practice days, and we found out quickly it is an easy course with many good ace opportunities. I really wanted a better result than Sidcup. Before we started I made a promise to myself, not to change any ball or lines during the tournament. It doesn’t matter if they don’t work properly, but I wanted to stick to the shots I practiced.
After a weak first round (34), I had a great second round (28), and I started the last round as 3rd. In the end, I made a good round again with 29, and I stayed 3rd, just 2 points behind the winner. This result made me very happy, and I achieved so many things, that I wanted to, for the first time:
- First medal (in singles)/ prize money/ podium finish in a tournament.
- Most aces on a tournament
- First round under 30 and a new personal best with 28

Margate, Strokes Invitational
Last weekend we played Margate. It’s a tough, but great, well-designed course with unique holes. The main reason I wanted to play in this tournament, we are going to have a major event in October, and this was a nice practice for that. I didn’t do too badly, but I didn’t play it well either. :) It was just mediocre. Just like in January, I missed out on the top10 by 1 shot.

We had scores with our playing partners together as well, and we became 3rd with Chris Wood in the pairs, what is a good result out of 16 teams.

I’m happy the season started properly, I’m really enjoying the game. The next stop is the singles matchplay and the Gloucester Aces Open, next weekend. A few weeks break for me after those, and in June we’ll play some big events, the World Crazy Golf Championship in Hastings, and the World Adventure Golf Masters in Finland. Big challenges ahead… It’s gonna be fun!
