During Easter weekend me and other people from the Italian Youth National Team staff were in Waldshut (GER) for a first "contact" with the courses where Youth Nations' Cup and European Championships will be played in the next period.
It was a very nice weekend with nice, sunny and warm weather.
I think I could write some notes about the two courses in Waldshut, that could perhaps be useful for people going to Waldshut in the next time.
The course place is very nice. The two courses are placed in a very relaxing green area just next to Rhein River. On the other coast you can also see Switzerland :-) because the river also represent the border line between Germany and Switzerland.
As Italian team we have also found a very nice location staying at a camping-hostel placed in the same road of the minigolf course, also near the river, just 500 m far from the minigolf place.
Waldshut is a nice town too...not so big but with all comforts you need.
Some words about the courses.
MINIGOLF
It is quite an old course that is quite nice to play. Actually the surface is pure concrete but it should be painted (with a transparent paint so it should not change too much) in the next time. In my opinion this is an average difficult course where a 28-29 round has to be considered quite good. You can score up to 9-10 aces in a round but it is not so easy to play without mistakes.
MINIATUREGOLF
The course is completely painted in blue / light blue which gave a very nice looking.
The course is quite nice to play with some tricky lanes (expecially angle, window, plateau, sticks). Plateau is really tricky! It's higher than a 10-years-old child :-) and with a very high inclination of the ramp. It is very easy to miss the right speed there.
Anyway, a good course where you can easily play 21-22 in my opinion. Not so many "temperature" lanes (expecially salto and blitz, a little bit cones and looping).
The particular aspect of this course is that lanes are all very high from the ground, so you need a little bit of training to get used to it and take the right position on the ball.
It should be a little problem for those small players, they could maybe need to cut a piece of the grip of their putter :-)
In my opinion, a combi-round in 49-50 is very good on this course, let's see...
I would like to thank MGF Waldshut players that were very kind to show us the courses on Saturday.
See you all at Youth Nations' Cup and European Youth Championships in Waldshut!
