The season here around Uppsala started for real this past weekend. Nine Uppsalaplayers were in Norrtälje participating in the cup and the first qualifying competition for Cup Stockholm. Anders Olsson was victorious in both competitions with Sture Molin also reaching the 4-man final on Saturday in the cup and Thomas Pölder ending up 2nd in the A-class on Sunday.
I didn't play since we've just moved and there's still a lot to do with the bathroom and of course the normal unpacking of way too many boxes. I have actually practiced something like 25-30 shots outdoors so far this season, with some more coming today in the rain. It not quite like when I was a junior and could practice in almost any weather, now it's more a practice session out of necessity. After all the first league weekend is coming up in two weeks time and it would be nice to have my normal feltform, which shouldn't take that long to achieve.
Speaking of the league I also have the nice task of selecting players for our two teams. I do like the part where I get to think and tinker with lineups for each game and team competition, but I have a tough time when it comes to telling players why they won't play. I would like to be able to use the method all my coaches in other sports have used. They just posted a message or read the lineup during the final practice before the game and that was the end, no questions, no discussions. Everyone agreed that the coach always had the team's best interest in mind and therefore no one ever questioned the team selection. In minigolf it has almost never been like this, almost every coach or person in charge of the team told me why I didn't play. I never really felt that it was necessary at all, I just went with the insight that those selected before were better suited for the game at that time. I never could imagine that our coach ever would choose a lineup that wasn't in the best interest for the team. Sometimes there's no real reason why certain players get selected apart from gut feeling. The only way to explain that is that the coach feels like the team is better with that player instead of you.
I will go on with selecting our squads and not telling players why until I'm asked. Just like me and Fredrik did in our CM/FM computer game. Hopefully no player will get pissed off and ask for a trade. :)
I would like to get comments on this subject both from players and coaches.
