The last event of the Finnish Winter League took place in Rahola, Tampere on Saturday the 18th of March. Manse1 had already ensured it’s victory in previous event but the second best team was still a mystery. You can see the previous article about the league here.

Team MG-Aces from Pori was face to face with SMGK from Helsinki - to beat SMGK, that tightly kept it’s grip on the second place, MG-Aces should had had to win the day with an inconceivable final result. And they almost did it. MG-Aces’ performance was nearly the top quality of the weekend but it wasn’t enough to displace SMGK. Also in the last event Manse1 was on it’s own level. So, MG-Aces ended to be second and SMGK the third one on Saturday. The final scores for the League’s top 3 teams are following:

1. Manse1, 30 points
2. SMGK, 24 points
3. MG-Aces, 22 points

The competition was also season’s last chance to shine in stroke play. Overall competition was led by same old names but gratifyingly there were also some new faces in the top 5! After three played rounds Aki Sillman (Kungälvs BGK), Jukka Reunavuori and Aapo Siurola from Manse RG, Petri Lönngren (TuRGS) and Tero Vaahtio (MG-Aces) were all tightly in a group. Between Sillman’s first place and Siurola’s fifth place there were only five shots. The second last round increased the differences when Vaahtio finished with a bit higher round result and Siurola was in trouble with three last lanes. While Reunavuori and Sillman kept on scoring top rounds. Fight for the win formed between these two players.

The final round moved ahead evenly and the difference between Sillman and Reunavuori varied from one to three shots. Sillman was able to calm his nerves and so he beat Reunavuori with two points. After playing wonderfully nicely, Petri Lönngren placed three and young Aapo Siurola who scored a blue round once again placed four. The fifth place went to MG-Aces-player Jussi Heino after winning the rematch against Marko Nuotio from SMGK.
