Judging by the number of articles in our inbox, the summer has been a very busy time for organizations to use miniature golf as their fundraiser of choice. This article is highlighting some of the ones that targeted support of specific human conditions and raising funds for research and support. While much of the below is summarizing the information available in the links, we think its important to bring this information together in one place since much of this is reported on by local news organizations and may not be seen by the wider minigolf community.
The first link below comes from Ohio, USA in May and combines raising money with some of the artistic qualities of minigolf that we've highlighted in other articles. It was the 27th iteration of the tournament to raise money for the Epilepsy Center of Northwest Ohio, specifically supporting a camp where families affected by epilepsy go for education and awareness on epilepsy. The holes were designed by both sponsors and students of the Penta Career Center and typically raises over $20,000 (~17,900 EUR) for the cause.
The second link is a video recapping the 2nd Annual Putting "Fore" Patients tournament which supports blood cancer research. This tournament is slightly unique in that it's driven by a ten year-old girl whose grandfather was impacted by the cancer. In their first year they raised approximately $4,000 (~3,600 EUR) and are looking to double that amount in the current year. It's great to see not only a charity event being held but also one being spearheaded by a minigolfing youth. It sets a great example to her peers and will bring in a young crowd to the event.
The last link comes from Wisconsin, USA where students in the local chapter of DECA (an organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management) were involved in running a tournament where all of the proceeds will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. It was another great example of youth being directly involved in charitable support through minigolf.
