There are about 300 recesses on one golf ball, and thanks to them, the ball flies three times farther than a smooth one. ... Balls of the same size...

and now, for something completely different.....
Minigolf in Barbados for example, where a "crazy" Swiss guy has built his own concrete course by using the Bogni drawings. An amazing creation considering his lack of minigolf experience. Too bad all the Bajans only care about Cricket, could have been an interesting place for a WC otherwise....

I am right now stuck in a hotel room in the small town of Vänersborg and can't help wondering how many cities I have played minigolf in over the years. Every place smaller odder, bigger, better than the other etc.

When meeting people at a party, at work or on other occasions and they say, I am from Hässleholm. By giving them a response where you seem to know all the restaurants, hotels and pubs in their home town is not always a good thing. Because then you will have to admit that you have the plague, i.e. you are playing minigolf....

But i must admit I like having been to many places, too bad all the time is spent at the course mostly. Imagine spending 10 weekends and 2-3 weeks on vacation every year at different (fun...) places instead. No wonder people quit playing our game and try to start living a normal life instead.

I am not really going anywhere with this, maybe open up a subject where you are welcome to add comments about your own travel experiences from minigolf. Best place, worst place, strangest memories etc.??

come on people, I was hoping to read some interesting stories in the comments here?!!?

I don't want to bore you with more stories from mine and my friends minigolf career like;
Flat tire at midnight on the Amerivan freeway, 500 meters away from an armybase...
Same trip, cut my hand real deep on the toliet bowl(!) and bled like a pig, almost had to get stitches...
Riding mini-buss at the championships in the 90's with Laban...
Ball bag lost and later found at the local library, some balls with burn marks...
Mikael Poduschkin trying to "kill" electrical fusebox in the streets of Eskilstuna...
Same Poduschkin turning his bag with balls upside down inside an airplane...
Same Poduschkin...., no there are way too many crazy stories involving him...

You guys can do better, give it to us!!

Well, I'd like to add that some people (maybe many?) wouldn't spend so much time traveling if it wasn't for minigolf. So even if it's mostly just the course, a hotel and a pub we are still getting to know the world. :-)

Hans,
I've enjoyed reading your blogs.
I've only traveled to Myrtle Beach, Branson, and Sedona to play. I enjoy going to all three, but my favorite place to visit is Sedona.

Well i havent been playing internationally but i have played in Sweden about 20yrs so i have been around.

The best place too play has too be one of my first times on Eternite SM in Kungälv. Kungälv did arrange the competition in a perfect way and it was fun too play on a very fun course. I was playing the bridge and had ZERO feeling so when i hit the ball it was so hard so i almost hit the audience in the head!!!! That was so funny!

The worst place too be is Akalla concrete. Boring course and surroundings. And its so disgusting when your visiting the outhouse and the faeces is allmost bubbling and it really stinks because of the warm weather.

To be honest, I've been to many many places for competitions... I won't name them all because then it would be a too long list, but I played JEM/JWM 1996 to 2003, EM/WM between 2000-2008, coach of the juniors in 2005 and 2007 and coach of the general class in 1999. Besides that I played/coached in different European Cups (2001 and 2003 to 2006).
To answer your question regarding the best place and worst place I've been... It is pretty hard. Worst experience must have been in Prague, where both our busses had been broken in to... There is not really a big difference between others, altough I liked being in Portugal to play/coach...
