The traditional "Master Final" has been played in Vedano al Lambro (indoor 100% concrete course) last weekend.
As usual, the best male and female italian players of the season meet on the only italian indoor course to play this final which has the following program:
- on Saturday, 4 qualification rounds have been played by all players. At the end of them, the best 4 male players and 2 female player get the direct pass to 1/4 finals. Players from 5th to 20th place men and 3rd to 6th place ladies get the pass to a preliminar round to qualify for the 1/4 finals too.
- on Sunday, there's a match-play system for qualified players. It is played on just 9 lanes (played twice to make a complete 18-holes round), which had been chosen by technical commission of the federation. Played lanes are 1, 4, 5, 6, 8, 12, 14, 15, 17.
Talking about the qualification rounds, we have seen some very good result with 20 "blue" rounds ( 2x 22 3x 23 15x24 ) and 7 played under 26,0 average on 4 rounds.
The male ranking was dominated by Luca Dellasega (MC Predazzo) which played a great 97 (rounds 25-25-25-22), 3 strokes better than 2 players of MT Amatese, Stefano Piccini and Francesco Leuci both with 99 strokes. Stefano, the title owner, started really great in the tournament, equalizing the course record on two rounds with 22-24 = 46.
These are the best 10 player after qualification rounds:
1 Luca Dellasega MC Predazzo 25 25 25 22 97
2 Francesco Leuci MT Amatese 23 26 25 25 99
3 Stefano Piccini MT Amatese 22 24 25 28 99
4 Andrea Origgi GSP Cusano 26 24 26 24 100
5 Marco Olivieri MMC Paderno 27 24 27 24 102
6 Paolo Porta MGC Novi Ligure 25 27 27 24 103
7 Juri Ghiraldi GSP Vergiate 25 29 25 24 103
8 Massimiliano Crespi MC Monza 26 27 26 25 104
8 Ivan Baruscotti GSP Vergiate 27 26 26 25 104
10 Nicolò Perazzolo GSP Vergiate 26 28 24 26 104
The best female player was Anna Bandera (GSP Cusano) with 105 strokes just one stroke better than Anna Catanzaro (MMC Paderno) and three better than Sara Marchiani and Antonella Flamini. All the other players had really big gaps from the top of the ranking.
So: Luca Dellasega, Stefano Piccini, Francesco Leuci, Andrea Origgi (men), Anna Bandera and Anna Catanzaro (ladies) go directly to 1/4 finals.
On Sunday the matchplay system starts with some missing matches, due to the heavy snow falled during the night. A couple of players (Paolo Porta and Gabriele Rovera) could not reach the course, giving a free way to their competitor.
As a "rule" of the matchplay system, the best player from qualification round never win...so it was also this time, with Luca Dellasega which was defeated by Ivan Baruscotti during the 1/4 finals. Anna Bandera, best of the ladies players, was defeated in semi-finals by Antonella Flamini.
The winner of the men event is Alberto Pirovano (MC Monza) , 14th after the qualification rounds, that means he had to defeat 500000 players to get the victory: Michele Graffeo in the 1st match, Massimiliano Crespi (nice comeback from him, he stopped playing in 2007 after WM in Canegrate) in the 2nd match, Stefano Piccini in 1/4 finals, Francesco Leuci in semi-final and his team mate Michele Perego in the final. This is the 4th "Master" title for Alberto after those won in 1990, 2003, 2005. Bronze medal match has been won by Francesco Leuci on Ivan Baruscotti.
In the ladies event, Antonella Flamini (MC Aponense) confirmed her particular attitude in match-play tournaments (that let her win the European Senior Title in Cheb some months ago) and also her "magic" season with 4 titles (European senior title, Italian overall title, Italian senior title and Master title!). Antonella is an FC Inter fan and most people say her she's like Inter, winning the same amounts of titles in 2010:).
Antonella defeated Sara Marchiani in the final. Bronze medal match has been won by Anna Bandera on Anna Catanzaro.
This was the last major tournament of the Italian season, which is not finished indeed: next weekend there's the last outdoor international tournament of the year, in Rapallo, and in two weeks Vedano course will host an international tournament. » Qualification rounds results » Preliminary match play rounds results » Final match play rounds results
