Samuel Hofer from MC Eichholz Gerlafingen wins the Geld-Cup in Sirach with a new record over four rounds.
Last Saturday, 18.12.2010 the traditional Geld-Cup took place in Sirnach. Normally the tournament takes place between Christmas and the 31. of December. Unfortunately, this was not possible this year. Nevertheless, as every year the tournament was a comfortable and amusing year-end. As nearly traditional, some of the players wore funny headdresses, this year the Santa clause cap was favored. The tournament was played as every year. At nine o’clock, the tournament started for every participant. All the players had to play five pre-rounds. These rounds are counting for the Swiss Ranking list. After these five rounds, the first 54 players were qualified for the Cup, which is the funny part of the tournament. These 54 players had to play in groups of three against each other. The player with the worst result discarded and the remain players played in the same way 2 more rounds until there were only 26 players left. These 16 players played against each other in groups of two until the winner was known at three o’clock in the morning.
The winner of the pre-rounds was Samuel Hofer from MC Eichholz Gerlafingen with 101 strokes. On the second place was Günter Inmann from UBGC Dornbirn (Austria) with 104 strokes and on the third place was Reto Sommer from MC Burgdorf with 104 strokes. Samuel Hofer played very good and many players thought that he could be the first one who wins the pre-rounds and the Cup of this tournament. As predicted by many players, Samuel Hofer also won the Cup rounds. He played very good and so it was possible for him to play at two o’clock in the morning (!) a new record over four rounds with 75 strokes. In the last round, Samuel Hofer played against Bernhard Kreuter fom MGF Waldshut (Germany) and won the round with 21 strokes with only one stroke less than Bernhard Kreuter. Samuel Hofer played over 12 rounds an average of 19.67 strokes. With these good results, it is a totally hard-earned win. On the second place was Bernhard Kreuter (MGF Waldshut), on the third place Reto Sommer (MC Burgdorf) and on the forth place Markus Will (MC Gerlafingen).
A big thank-you to the MC Wetzikon, the organizer of this tournament and to the owner Jürg Schmid who took care, that we all eat enough :). Also a big thank-you for all the rewards. Every player from ranking 24 on won money and the MC Wetzikon also gave some special rewards for some rankings who were worse than 24.
The special atmosphere at this tournament was once again a good possibility to make new friends.
