WMF and BMGA have agreed to organize the first ever World Adventuregolf Masters in Hastings, England, on 13 - 14 May 2011. This is the first time that WMF organizes a major event on adventure golf courses in Europe.
Hastings Seafront includes two adventure golf courses (or three when renovation of the third course will be ready). Currently it is not known which one or two of these courses will be used for this competition. » tournament info at BMGA website » news article at WMF website » information about Hastings Crazy course

13 Jan 2011 at 14:32 | I was one of the ppl who voted "This is a negative thing for minigolf sport" but that was due to a misguided mouse click. I was supposed too click on the last alternative. But i have too say that i play minigolf and not a miniature type of "real golf" thats why i am not a big fan of MOS minigolf. But i am going too the UK and play a competition just so i would know what i am talking about. The type of MOS lanes that´s in Gothenburg , for an example, is not a type of lanes thats appealing too me. But i agree that a new big competition is a good thing if media cover´s it.

13 Jan 2011 at 12:36 | You're right of course Andre. I'd just be interested to hear an opinion from one (or all) of the three voters. If their opinion is reasonable of course I would be ok with it but I can't think why it could possibly be a negative thing. |

13 Jan 2011 at 12:16 | You're talking about 3 guys that voted it would be a negative thing. 3 is a low number and there's always someone who likes to put up a little fire. The more people playing minigolf in its all systems the best. Even better is that they're all unite and heading to the same goal. |

13 Jan 2011 at 09:23 | Well said Antonio!
It seems that the people voting that it is a negative thing for minigolf sport are keeping their reasons for voting that way to themselves. |

10 Jan 2011 at 11:13 | Let´s expand the minigolf to other frontiers. I apllause the ideia of creating a new type of tournament under the umbrella of WMF.
The minigolf needs more practicants in more countries !
An the Crazygolf, Adventuregolf and other MOS are the best way to do that !

10 Jan 2011 at 10:17 | The boundaries between UK Mingolf, Adventure golf & Crazy golf are indeed a bit blurred, some courses could be described as one or another. There is also the case in America who I believe only use standard golfballs only, which I also like as it replicates golf closer.
But, I'd like to find out the reasons for people voting that the new WMF event is a Negative thing for minigolf sport? How can another tournament format possibly be a negative thing, or do people that only play European style courses really have opinions that nothing else matters? There is room for all types of courses & tournaments, if you don't like the courses don't play, just don't try & prevent others from enjoying themselves. |

10 Jan 2011 at 00:37 | As a regular BMGA player here's how I see the courses we play:
Minigolf: The majority of courses have a felt surface with various obstacles and on alot the holes there are good rebound opportunities. Play format is one ball on the course at a time. (The use of Minigolf desighed balls are an advantage on theses courses)
Adventure golf: The course surface is an artificial grass with various degrees of speed, most of the time with these holes there aren't many rebound opportunities as the rebound walls can't be relied on and the layout of most of the holes rely on your line to the hole straight from the Tee. Again same play format as the minigolf. (A dead ball comes in handy but for the most part a golf ball or course golf ball is all that is needed)
Crazy golf: The difference here is all about the play format, once the first person has tee'd off then so will the other players in the group and alternate the person tee-ing off first at each hole (Multiball play, furthest away from the hole plays their second shot first.) Joe public in GB plays this format most of the time. In terms of course type the 'Arnold Palmer design' of which there are quite a few in GB is the ideal course for this format but joe public plays this format on both Mini and Adventure courses. (Only one ball is allowed that usually being the course golf ball.)
So Mini and Adventure - Type of surface and rebound opportunities with single play format.
Crazy golf - Format of play multiball and the use of one ball only.
If any other BMGA member would like to make any different suggestions I'm open... |

08 Jan 2011 at 16:40 | WMF cannot be expected to define what is not adventure golf, when it hasn't yet defined what _is_ adventure golf.
Aceman and others once tried to explain to me what kind of courses the British concepts "crazy golf", "mini golf" and "adventure golf" refer to. I never noticed any difference between their "adventure golf" and "mini golf" concepts. "Crazy golf" is quite much the same, with some funny obstacles included. Or then "crazy golf" means the multi-ball game -- this is what some leading BMGA members wanted to make the concept mean internationally, some years ago. |

08 Jan 2011 at 16:11 | The old mini course will be turned into an adventure golf course, so there will be two of those. The third course is a crazy golf course. I don't know if wmf wants to think the crazy course also as adventure golf, but at some point they will have to draw a line somewhere what they will consider as adventure golf.
I doubt that the course owner would want to keep both of his most popular courses out of business, so this would disclude either of the adventure courses. (assuming that the new course will be among the 2 most popular).
I think it's the wmf's interest to use two courses and I think anyway that crazy course will be one of them. I also think that that they might not yet have decided if 1 or 2 courses should be played. maybe it might depend on the number of participants.
The tournament is not that far away anymore, so plans for this should already have been made. I think this will definately reduce the amount of participants! | Add comment | To add comments, you need to log in.
