03 Feb 2011 at 22:02 | Published by: Hans | Views: 10893 | News search
In the beginning of March (the 6th) the Minigolfworld will see a tournament with both stars and diamonds that will be held outside the Czech capital of Prague at an indoor eternit facility in Butovice.
This is an invitational tournament where the arrangers have been able to sign up international stars such as:
* Carl-Johan Ryner, Sweden
* Anders Olsson, Sweden
* Rudy Giroldini, Italy
* Francesco Leuci, Italy
* Manfred Lindmayer, Austria
* Kosti Salonen, Finland
* Csaba Pálinkás, Hungary
* Martin Ječný, Czech Republic
* Karel Molnár, Czech Republic
The tournament is called Diamond Minigolf Masters and is held for the first time. 12 players are expected to be playing so another 3 places are still to be filled. The arrangers have undergoing negotiations with Mike Mann, Switzerland and Alexander Geist of Germany.
The tournament will be played in an attractive KO system (match play). The first two rounds will be played as preliminary ones in order to determine the seeding into the match play.
The event will be presented in the massive media coverage in the Czech media (Czech TVs, radio etc.).
It is also one of the major tournaments during the indoor season when it comes to prize money. The winner gets 3,000 Euro plus 1,000 Euro worth of diamonds. Second price is EUR 2,000 Euro and third prize is 1,000 Euro.

Just a note that they asked me, but due to work I am not able to go there. Otherwise it would defenitely be a tournament I would like to play! |

04 Feb 2011 at 12:34 | Maybe one thing to consider is that the news item is only stating who has accepted to participate, not who has been asked to join, so we dont really know if there are other that for any reason could not come to Czech Republic at this time. |

04 Feb 2011 at 12:23 | @ Bub: i think you are right... let us look and wait what will happen with this event in future. i think also its a good way for medial attention anyway.
but btw, you know me well, and i am not the silent guy, who is sitting in the corner and wont say anything if i have some comments on my lips... :-)
i wish the organizers just the best and a real attractive, close, intersting competition, which will have attention as we never had before in minigolf! good luck |

04 Feb 2011 at 11:55 | Each attempt to bring minigolf to public and mass-media is really remarkable and welcome. This Czech event is really a good thing for minigolf...only one thing let me doubtful. Aren't 16 players too few for a major event like that? Will it give a good picture of minigolf sport? I play club tournaments with more players :)
Maybe 32 players would have been a better number. Or also 20-25 with then a cut to best 16 for the matchplay. Good thing anyway. |

04 Feb 2011 at 11:24 | nice thing - good story - but why I have to read about complaints?
It is an invitational tournament and as it is written - invitational means that the organiser feels free to invite who ever he wants or at least who ever he thinks make to most out of it ....
So sit back, relax and be happy that some people are not only talking, but also doing something to bring our sport forward ... |

04 Feb 2011 at 10:55 | Looks quite big, someone is throwing a lot of money into this. The prize money is not awe-inspiring, but getting hours of television coverage (will they, and on a national channel?) would be exceptional.
Some minor details can still go wrong, such as:
- If the players use 60+ seconds meditating behind the ball, will the TV audience change the channel?
- If 16 shots out of 18 go to the hole, will the TV audience get a monotonous feeling and change the channel?
- If the minigolf balls have same colour as the lanes, and are poorly seen in tv picture, will the TV audience change the channel? | Add comment | To add comments, you need to log in.
