Oxford’s Michael Smith picked up his second consecutive minigolf win of the season with a 54-hole score of 92 (-16) at the British Minigolf Association’s Rumble in the Jungle competition held on Sunday 13th February at the Jungle Rumble Indoor Adventure Golf course at Cabot Circus, Bristol.
28 British Minigolf Association (BMGA) Tour players took part in the event. The tournament was won in a sudden-death play-off as Smith and Kent’s Sean Homer had tied over the three-rounds. Smith took the win on the third extra-hole. Bath’s Kevin Moseley was third.
Inaugural BMGA Rumble in the Jungle Champion Michael Smith said “I am delighted to win the first Rumble in the Jungle. The final round was very exciting with many twists and turns. It was particularly pleasing to make up a five stroke deficit in the last 11 holes. To win any tournament is special but to win it in a sudden-death play-off is an incredible feeling.”
Other prize winners were Richard Skeggs, who won the Category 2 prize after a three-way play-off with Oliver Florence and Chris Smith, who finished second and third in the Category 2 competition respectively.
Hither Green’s Nick Sandqvist won the Aces prize with 20 holes-in-one across the three-rounds
Sean Homer also equalled the Secret Swamp course record in the second-round of the event shooting a 29 (-7).
The main BMGA Rumble in the Jungle tournament also held a team competition within it, with players drawn together and their individual scores counting towards the team total. The team of Michael Smith, Oliver Florence and Leo Kukielka tied with the team of Owen Johnson, Kevin Moseley and James Rutherford to win the nine-team event.
