Crazy weekend in Austrian Bundesliga
Very interesting results have been seen last weekend when Austrian Bundesliga takes part at the wellknown minigolf course in Koci-Strasse, Vienna. 2 days which couldn´t be more different as they have been.
Let´s start with the ladies.
First surprise was that the women team of Bischofshofen wasn´t able to nominate 3 ladies to play on Saturday! So the female competition started with only 3 teams. The ladies of reigning champion and current Bundesliga leader Union RotGold showed again their skills and won this day followed by Linz-Lissfeld and Gänserndorf. A big part of the victory belongs to the excellent performance of “oldie but goldie” Elsa Kammerer who again played women bestscore with 85 strikes!
By the way: In the meantime Elsa is 67 years young!
Second day and suddenly 4 teams at the start! Youngster Jacky Helm choined her sister Jennifer as well as Birgit Heschl and so Bischofshofen had a team. And what happened? Bischofshofen won this day in an easy way by scoring best results in all three rounds!! In a close decision Rot Gold reached second place this time followed by Gänserndorf and Linz-Lissfeld. Best individual and the only green results have been 85 by Birgit Heschl (BIHO) and 87 from Johanna Knotzer (URG).
In overall URG is leading now with 10 points advantage and the next title seems to be quite clear. Linz-Lissfeld and Bischofshofen are equal on second and third place followed by the ladies from Gänserndorf. Probabely an advantage for Linz against Bischofshofen that the last 2 days will be played at their home eternit course.
Ladies team of this weekend:
1. Elsa KAMMERER (URG) 176
2. Birgit HESCHL (BIHO) 178
3. Elisabeth GRUBER (Gäns) 181
4. Jennifer HELM (BIHO) 182
5. Karin HESCHL (URG) 184
Johanna KNOTZER (URG) 184
Martina DANNER (Linz) 184
Overall standings:
1. BGCU Rot Gold 20 points (57 round points / 1215 strokes)
2. ASKÖ 3D MSC Linz Lissfeld 10 points (36 / 1239)
3. ASKÖ MGC Bischofshofen 10 points (34 / 1507)
4. SV OMV Gänserndorf 8 points (29 / 1265)
Now let´s go further on with the men competition.
Before this weekend Bischofshofen and W.A.T. 21 stayed at the top of the league with the same number of points, Steyr was third before Gänserndorf and BGC Wien.
The first round started and everything looked like W.A.T. 21 would win this because after 4 players they had a 7 points advantage before the second team and 14! strokes before Bischofshofen – at this time only on last position this round. But then the situation changed. W.A.T. 21 number 5 Heinz Weber was substituted after 3 strokes on lane 15 and totally 30 strokes. But his substitute, Christian Schlager, needed 12 strokes for the last 4 lanes and so the W.A.T. 21 team suddenly found itself on the last place first round. Following rounds they seemed to be in a state of shock not finding a way out and finished this day with worst score of all teams. The big chance for vice-champion Bischofshofen to enlarge their leading position. But also the guys from Salzburg didn´t have their best day and ended only on 4th place, 1 position before W.A.T.21.
The dominating teams of the last decade at the end of the table – so who will win this day? After two rounds the young team of MSC Steyr and Gänserndorf were in the lead and although Gänserndorf only played a final round of 182 it was enough to secure the victory due to a very bad 192 round of Steyr. Home team of BGC Wien won 3rd round with 169 and completed with 3rd place this day of unexpected results.
Best player was surprisingly Marc Cervinka (BIHO) with sensationally 77 strokes, followed by Herbert Bäk (W.A.T.21) 82 and Robert Konrad (Steyr) 83.
Next day, sunday morning - what will happen?
Well, from the beginning it was quite clear that Austrians minigolf scene should return to its “normal” way of life.
Bischofshofen won first round with a score of 168, three strokes before W.A.T. 21 answering with the best round of this weekend – 159 (average 26.5). So it was fact that only these two teams had the chance to win this day. After 4 players finished last round and including the current standings of the last players on the course everything was ready for a Bischofshofen victory. But then the situation changed: W.A.T. 21 members Wagenhofer and Weber played last 9 lanes -6 and -5 while their competitors Lackner and Westenthaler passed these lanes only with +/-0 and -2, both showing a 4 on lane 15! So finally 2 strokes decided the “battle of Koci” and the champion was definitely back after saturdays disaster.
Gänserndorf, winner of the day before, was to find only on last place but due to a great finish they overtook BGC WIEN as well as the team of Steyr and secured 3rd place.
Best results on Sunday have been played by Thomas Emich (Steyr) and Herbert Bäk (W.A.T.21) with 79 strokes each.
Men team of this weekend:
1. Marc CERVINKA (BIHO) 158
2. Herbert BÄK (W.A.T.21) 161
3. Philipp Riegler (Gäns) 167
4. Norbert WAGENHOFER (W.A.T.21) 168
Robert KONRAD (Steyr) 168
Overall standings:
1. Wiener ASKÖ Team 21 22 points (71 round points / 2230 strokes)
2. ASKÖ MGC Bischofshofen 22 points (71 / 2254)
3. ASKÖ MSC Steyr 16 points (55 / 2289)
4. SV OMV Gänserndorf 16 points (44 / 2325)
5. BGC Wien 4 points (19 / 2398)
