The first day was played in brilliant weather, sunny 22-23 degrees and no wind, in Bad Münder today. Even though the real amazing results were not coming it still was a tight and interesting day at the course. Maybe most surprising is the lead of the Austrian ladies.
Coming to Bad Münder without Lisa Gruber and Manuela Zojer these girls was playing a great game. But you can also argue that the German and the Swedish ladies teams didn’t really performed on their top level. As an example it not often you see the German ladies shooting 11 strokes in three ladies on lane 18 on felt like they did the last lap, with an unlucky Anne Bollrich making a 6.
So the Austrian team leads by 6 strokes in front of the German ladies. In third place we find the Czech Ladies another 4 behind Germany and another 3 behind is Sweden. It’s most likely these 4 that will play for the medals tomorrow since it’s a big jump until Russia in fifth place.
Best individually today amongst the ladies:
1. Bianca Zodrow, Germany 77
2. Sandra Schwarz, Austria 78
2. Annika Dellmann, Germany 78
4. Marielle Svensson, Sweden 78
5. Karin Heschl, Austria 79
In the men’s competition the Swedes are in the lead by 5 strokes in front of the Germans. A bit surprisingly the Swedes had gained their advantage on the eternit course and not on the felt course. They won the two laps by 10 strokes against the Germans but lost 5 on the felt. In third position another 7 strokes behind we find Switzerland 3 before Austria in fourth place. In fifth place one behind Austria is the Czech Republic. Probably the medals tomorrow will be within these 5 nations.
Best individually today amongst the men:
1. Karel Molnar, Czech Republic 66
2. Dennis Kapke, Germany 66
3. Alexander Geist, Germany 67
4. Mike Mann, Switzerland 68
4. Eetu Ikola, Finland 68
It’s quite tight tough since the last result to make it into the final 32 has 74 strokes.
