The 2nd Bundesliga match of the new season brought a big surprise. Niendorf (Hamburg) won and Hardenberg was only 3rd. All the teams were very close together - only 17 shots between the first and last men's teams.
The match took place on the concrete course in Künzell on September 22nd. Künzell ist located near Kassel in the German Federal State Hessen and is well known by international senior players as the Senior's European Championship took place there in 2011.
Niendorf had a bad start and were only on the 5th place after the 1st round, but with two blue rounds of 149 they took the lead and defended it in the last round. Arheilgen started very well and took the lead after the 1st round with a round of 151. At the end they reached the 2nd place, 7 shots behind Niendorf. Hardenberg had a good start but couldn't keep in touch with Niendorf. Only one shot behind Arheilgen they ended up on the 3rd place. Dormagen-Brechten started badly and were on the last place after a 165 in the 1st round. But with a new course record of 145 in the 2nd round they equalized with Hardenberg at the end and reached a shared 3rd place. Mainz ended up on he 5th place, 4 shots in front of the local team from Künzell, who couldn't get any points although they provided an excellent team performance.
So the men's teams showed an excellent performance and it was an exciting match with a surprising end. The best player of the day, Niendorfs Stephan Behrens, played a new course record with 93 (ø 23.25), a very unusual score for a concrete course. There were several blue rounds (below 25), the best one 21, played by Stephan Behrens and Lars Greiffendorf from Mainz.
The ranking of the men's teams is now completely open. Niendorf and Arheilgen are leading with 16 points each, and Hardenberg is on the 3rd place with 15 points. So this season Hardenberg needs to struggle more if they want to win the Bundesliga.
The women's teams didn't get 4 rounds through, they only played 3 rounds (it was too late for the 4th round). Mainz won in front of Schwaikheim/Ludwigshafen, followed by Göttingen. Cuxhaven reached the 4th place ahead of Olching and Bensheim-Auerbach.
The Bundesliga season will be continued next year. On April 13th the teams will meet up on the felt course in Bramsche.
