On the first weekend of the year the Swedish Cup has become a very popular tradition in later years. Since the modus is only 4-men and it’s played indoor on eternit in match play KO-modus it opens for very tight and exiting matches with surprises along the cup-three.

This year the competition is played in the new indoor eternit of Asarum in south of Sweden.

On Sunday the 24 Teams was ranked and divided into 4 group’s playing for positioning in Mondays 16 Team-Cup three.

Group A was won by Jönköping on 8 points ending at the same as Tantogården. In Group B the winners was Sjöviken, winning all five matches. In Group C the winners were Kungälv also winning all five matches.

In the last Group D two of the main favorites Uppsala and Skoghall were drawn into the same group. The both of them were winning their initial four games and late on Sunday evening they were to play against each other for the group win, but a strange thing happened. Both teams left walk-over leaving this match not played. The obvious reason was to win some rest-hours before Mondays knock out phase and both teams obviously though winning the group did not really matter to the outcome of Monday’s match-play. The competition management and the referee found no way by the rules to handle the situation and so this match was left not played with a result of 0-0. How sportsmanlike it was not to play this last game by Skoghall and Uppsala was later discussed with high intense social medias. Anyway, the outcome lead to that Skoghall won the group on better strokes than Uppsala.

On Mondays knock-out phase four Swedish club level giants ended up playing the semifinals. In the first semifinal Jönköping meet Skoghall and in a game of quite low quality Skoghall could manage to win by 93-95. In the second semifinal Uppsala meet Tantogården. This was better in quality and also this match was won by two strokes. This time by Uppsala with 84-86.

The bronze match was then won by Jönköping by 88-90 against Tantogården.

So in the final the not played game from Sunday evening was to be held. This time none of the clubs wanted to give any walk-over of course. In the final Uppsala showed their best game of the weekend and never gave Skoghall much chance. Even if there were never so many strokes between the teams, Uppsala hardly missed anything and hence didn’t give Skoghall many chances to close the margin. In the end Uppsala won with the lowest team score of the weekend (82) by 4 strokes.

This was the 7th time Uppsala won the Swedish Cup, but the last time was way back in 2008. Now at least Uppsala is alone as the club with most titles in the history of the Swedish Cup, before this was tied with Tantogården on six titles.

Top 10 individually was:

1. Lars Peter Nilsson, Sjövikens IF 20,67
2. Torgny Kjellström, Kungälvs BGK 20,80
3. Daniel Källström, Sjövikens IF 20,83
4. Jonas Gustafsson, BGK Jönköping 20,89
5. Anders Olsson, Uppsala BGK 21,13
6. Fredrik Tagesson, Olofströms BGK 21,14
7. Fredrik Persson, Uppsala BGK 21,25
8. Filip Johansson, Skoghalls BGK 21,29
9. Filiph Svensson, Skoghalls BGK 21,43
10. Mats Nilsson, Perstorps BGK 21,50

Best participating lady was:

1. Nora Fause, Gullbergsbro BGK 22,00
