The home player Reine Niord was the overall best at the Gullbergsbro MOS International competition. Since this was the rehearsal competition for the WAGM in May on the same course, the starting field was better than ever on a Swedish MOS competition.

In the brilliant April weather (20 degrees and sunny) the course became faster than before and it was clear on training that more aces could be achieved than the years before. Also the choice of ball on each lane became more important than before and it was quite clear that the ball was the difference between a good shot and an ace on several lanes.

As usual in this competition some of the best results usually come in the senior men’s category. This year Reine Niord won again, just as last year this year on 139 strokes. This time though, the margin to the second player was closer than before. Reine had to play sudden death on the victory against his team mate Thomas Sennerby, and managed to win already on lane one. One stroke behind was another home player Patrik Wessman.

In the men’s class Filiph Svensson of Skoghall won on 140 strokes. Filiph managed to win even though he did not get a single ace on the six first lanes. This is normally some good chances to ace on at least lane 2-6 and all the other top ten players had 5-7 aces in those lanes on four rounds. But Filiph showed that he could hold on and actually create 11 aces from on the last ten lanes which are not easy and therefore he could still managed a green average and a three stroke win. On second place came Peter Eisenschmidt and Lars Brown. On the last round a new incredible course record of 30 strokes was set by Rasmus Schedin which led him all the way up to the fourth position.

In the ladies class Linda Lundberg won after a brilliant 31 on the last round.

The Swedish MOS Head Coach will publish the 4 teams for the WAGM soon after this weekend. Already now it’s clear that we will see some strong players like Carl-Johan Ryner, Filiph Svensson and Lars Brown in the teams. One might wonder if Reine will beat them all also in WAGM?
