Last weekend the Swiss Team Championship took place at the Minigolf course in Bern Waldau. It is one of the special Swiss 80% size concrete courses.
The favourites were clear. In men’s teams there was defending champion MC Olten, and as every year Eichholz Gerlafingen and Burgdorf.
Other teams were not expected as favourites for the title, but every time good for winning a round in this Swiss system of playing.
In women’s teams there was also title holder MC Olten, MC Effretikon and Burgdorf. Unfortunately there were just 5 female teams in summary this year.
It was played in the system of the Nations cup.
After every round there were points given to every team. Men’s teams got 14, 12, 10, 8 and so on, women’s teams got 8, 6, 4, 2, 0.
After first day it was clear that the title in women’s competition will be decided between the 3 favourites. MC Olten and Effretikon were leading with 20 points in front of Burgdorf with 13. Best player was Wicki Sandra (Effretikon) with 76 (25,33). At the second day it was the day of Burgdorf. They collected 22 points at this day and made the battle very tight for the last day! Effretikon was leading (38) in front of Burgdorf (35) and Olten (34), which had a bad day. Best player at this day was Trachsel Yvonne (Burgdorf) with 80 (26,67).
The final day was the day of the reigning champion MC Olten. They started with 2 rounds of 78 (26,0) and got into leading position before the final round. They had luck because the team of MC Wohlen which didn’t play any role until this round played 86 in the second round and Effretikon, Burgdorf and Florida-Studen played just 90 (30,0) in this round! So in case of sharing the 3rd place with 2 other teams, the team of Effretikon got just 2 points! In last round it didn’t matter that MC Olten played a „zero – round“ with 88 (29,33), because they had enough strokes less than Effretikon and got their second title in a row. Best player at the final day was again Trachsel Yvonne with 78 (26,0).
Top 5 female players over all 3 days were:
Wicki Sandra, Effretikon 241 (26,78)
Blaser Melanie, Olten 241 (26,78)
Blendermann Stefanie, Olten 242 (26,89)
Trachsel Yvonne, Burgdorf 242 (26,89)
Weber Rebecca, Effretikon 250 (27,8)
The Olten winning ladies.
The first day brought a surprising result. The home team of Berner Falken could show a great performance with winning 2 rounds and go into leading position (36 points) in front of Olten (33) and Gerlafingen (31), followed by Burgdorf (28).
Best players were Schneider Andreas and Zuberbühler Gerhard with equalizing the course record of 72 (24,0).
The second day was the day of the reigning Champion Olten. They won all 3 rounds with the maximum points of 42 at all and got into leading position with 75 points, followed by Gerlafingen (61) and Burgdorf (56). Berner Falken couldn’t continue with their performance and fell back to 4th position (45). Best player at the 2nd day was Hofer Samuel (Gerlafingen) with 75 (25,0).
The 3rd day started with a big challenge of Gerlafingen with equalizing the best round of Olten from 2nd day with 155 (25,83), but Olten also played well with 157, being lucky to be one stroke before Berner Falken and Burgdorf with 158! By leading „comfortable“ 12 points 2 rounds before finish the worst case happened to the team of MC Olten. They played their worst round with 172 (28,67) while ALL other teams played 168 or better and Gerlafingen won with 161 (26,83).
So this was a „zero – round“ for Olten while Gerlafingen got there 14 and went into lead before the final round. Being shocked about this second last round, Olten packed out their big fighting attitude and showed almost the best round with 156 (26,0).
Gerlafingen couldnt stand this coming back of Olten and played 162 (27,0). Olten took the title for the 7th time in a row which is new Swiss record, with 96 points, and for the 10th time over all. Gerlafingen got the 2nd position (93) for the 7th time in a row and Burgdorf took the bronze medal with 79 points.
Best player at the final day was Charriere Phillippe, Olten with 75 (25,0)
Top 5 male player over all 3 days were:
Charriere Phillippe, Olten 231 (25,67)
Schneider Andreas, Gerlafingen 231 (25,67)
Maggi Omar, Olten 232 (25,78)
Inmann Günter, Olten 233 (25,89)
Hofer Samuel, Gerlafingen 235 (26,11)
The Olten winning mens.
It is the second time in a row that MC Olten made the double title (men and women)
