A perfect 18. It's the minigolfer's dream regardless of the style you play. To shoot one is an accomplishment on par with (and probably more difficult than) a 300 game in bowling but to be able to do it in competition is a rare thing. In Putt Putt competition it has only been done by three players before this past weekend. Greg Newport has added his name as number four on this list. » The Perfect 18
If the name sounds familiar to the international community, Greg is a member of the newly re-formed Team USA who competed in Kosovo a couple of weekends back and earned the bronze medal in the senior men's division. His perfect 18 came in defense of his Virginia Open title, which he won by six strokes over Brad Lebo. Along the way he also set a PPA record for consecutive aces at 24.
If you missed it, the website Grantland (a former division of ESPN) did a 30 for 30 short about Rick Baird's perfect 18 in 2011, which was shot on the same course as Newport's. The link is below.
Thank you to the PPA for the tournament information and to Greg for the picture via Facebook. Congrats to Greg on earning a great place in Putt Putt history and making a great story for #minigolfmonday!
