Zaton, Croatia - From September 20 to 23, 2017, the 2017 edition of the World Championships will be held at Zaton Holiday Resort (Nin, Croatia). The registration period for the event closed on May 31, 2017 and there are now 17 countries confirmed with a total of 191 participants (including coaches - 165 players have registered). While the participant list has a lot of the regular countries there, Australia will be competing for the first time in these championships. A list of the countries participating along with their distribution to various training groups for the official traning days of September 15 to 19 can be found Here.
The World Championships is the largest event on the World Minigolf Sport Federation (WMF) calendar and is being held during a packed period in Zaton. Earlier in the month, September 11 and 12, the World Adventure Golf Masters will be held at Zaton Holiday resort as well. Concurrently, the first ever World Championships for deaf players 2017 will be held on the newly build miniaturegolf course in Zaton, one of the courses to be used during the World Championships. This new World Championships will be the first ever World Championship for minigolfers with disabilities and is organized by an organisation team of WMF, in close cooperation with Zaton Holiday Resort and the Croatian Minigolf Federation.
The World Championships will be held on some newly constructed courses that were recently used for the WMF Minigolf Croatian Grand Prix held in June. The competition was fierce during that tournament and it's expected to be even better as more of the world's best putters descend on the course. You can visit the WMF Facebook page for additional pictures and videos from that competition to get a feel for the courses.
There is expected to be plenty of media coverage going into the World Championships including all of the WMF and Minigolfnews social media channels. There is an official World Championships media page on the WMF website which will provide all official announcements. If you are looking for some good articles to get you ready for the event Marion Homer of the British Minigolf Association (BMGA) has a blog where she'll be providing insight into the tournament as well as featuring interviews with various names playing in the WMF events.
The World Minigolf Sport Federation (WMF) is the umbrella organization of 63 Minigolf sports associations worldwide with Continental Associations in Africa, America, Asia, Europe and Oceania. Over 1,000 championships courses are approved for official competitions and over 1,500 international minigolf tournaments are held each year. Millions of players all around the world like to play minigolf as a private leisure activity and in public competitions » WMF Facebook
