In part 8 our series of re-posts of the youth interviews from the WMF Youth Facebook page, we have an interview with Selina Krauss from Germany who earned a team silver medal in Askim. In case you missed the seventh in the series (which happens to be an interview with her brother), you can catch it here. The following interview can also be found here.
Club: 1.MGC Mainz
Birth year: 2002
Q1: How and when did you start to play Minigolf?
SK: It was 5 years ago, when I was on a vacation with my family. We had always played a lot of minigolf, but only because it was a fun activity for us. But this time when we visited a course, the owner informed us about minigolf as a “real” sport. So, because we liked minigolf so much, when we arrived back home we started to search for a club that was located near to us. Since then, me and my family became members of the 1. MGC Mainz.
Q2: What club do you use when you play and what is your favourite ball?
SK: I am playing with the NIFO Steel and my favourite ball is the 3D Ball of Fame German Team Champions 89-95 1.MGC Mainz/ females.
Q3: What surface do you prefer the most? Follow-up question: Do you have a personal best (PB) that you are particularly proud of?
SK: I really like to play on miniature courses, but I also enjoy playing on felt and concrete as well.
Q4: Have you ever had a role model you looked up to during your early years? Maybe this person still is an inspiration for you today?
SK: I have been looking up to Alice Kobisch since I started to play for 1.MGC Mainz. She always got smile on her face and manages to motivate her teammates. Therefore, I am so happy to have her in my team. I think that she has taught me so much like no one else has in the past years.
Q5: What is your biggest merit within Minigolf? (Doesn’t need to be related to competition)
SK: I think my biggest merit is not related to a competition. I am trying my best to support this sport, especially for people who do not play Minigolf.
Q6: What is your best/strongest memory from your years being a youth player?
SK: I have got a lot of memories from the past years, but I really like to remember my summer in 2017 when I got the opportunity to played a lot of minigolf. It all started at the German Championships, when I was there with the woman´s team from my club. It was an interesting and cool week. After that, the German Youth Championships took place, which also brought me loads of positive impressions. Furthermore, there was the nomination for the European Youth Championships in Askim (Sweden). Which ended up in that I, together with three other teammates, flew to Askim to experience two wonderful weeks with the German youth national team. My last highlight was the European Cup in Algund (Italy). The mood, the team and the environment were just great there. I am very proud of my performance 2017 and I am so happy that I had all these chances to experience great minigolf.
Last Question: What is it about Minigolf that makes it so special?
SK: I think that minigolf is a sport where you have a lot of possibilities. The variety is amazing, because you can just try so many (new) things. There are not really any limitations. I also like the combination that you sometimes can play together as a team, but also on your own. The team cohesion is always very nice and it makes minigolf so much more fun. When you can play and experience it together with others.
