The Swedish Cup on felt is a fairly new competition with a only two years history. Last year the winner was Södertälje and the competition was played on the Tyresö home ground. This year Tyresö had to travel north to Sundsvall to compete but in spite not playing on home ground this time they won.
Last year almost all elite teams in Sweden were starting with 4-man teams but this year it was 8 starting teams and only 3 teams belonging in Elitserien. The modus was man-to-man match play and one won game gave 1 point, making each match playing for 4 points.
On Saturday two groups with 4 teams each played for the placements in Sunday’s quarter finals. The two Elitserie teams Södertälje and newcomer Sundsvall won each of their groups. The third Elitserie team also newcomer Tuve was only third in their group. Tyresö was second in their group.
The semifinals on Sunday were the two Eliteserien newcomers Tuve against Sundsvall. Even if Sundsvall had home ground it was Tuve that won with 3-1. I the other semifinal Tyresö won against Södertälje with 3-1.
The bronze match was won by Sundsvall by 3,5-0,5. The final was a close battle that ended 2-2 between Tuve and Tyresö. Tyresö though won in sudden death on lane 1.
