Austrian Championships with KO-system
16 Jan 2009 at 17:23 | Published by: Nimalu | Views: 8034 | News search
This years Austrian Championships in Vorarlberg/Dornbirn will for the first time be played using the KO-system. At first the plan was to have two separate championships, but this was not approved by the national sports authorities, who said there can only be one officially recognized "Staatsmeister" in each category.
In stead, the championships will now be played with 6 or 8 rounds during the first two days, and after that a price ceremony will take place, though the winners of the score play will not get the title "Staatsmeister".
On day 3 there will be played a cup competition with the top 16 players from the womens competition and the top 32 from the mens competition, to decide who will be the Austrian Champions of 2009. » Invitation to 49. Bahnengolf Staatsmeisterschaft » Homepage of ÖBGV

Above all - it does not matter. Both are austrian champs.
And i think maybe there would be very nice austrian championships this year in Vorarlberg/Dornbirn. Its just a nice Place to have the championships. |

18 Jan 2009 at 00:01 | Thats maybe a little bit confusing for non-austrians. We have 2 things. One is Staatsmeister and the other thing is österreichischer Meister. In English I would say to both of them: Austrian Champion. e.g. In youth category you don´t be Staatsmeister you are "just" Austrian champion. In Austria we do not play nat. champ. in different systems. (Beton, Eternit, Felt). There is only one austrian champ. a year. But this year we will have a austrian champ. after 2 competition days for round play. And the best players will go for the austrian champ. in match play on saturday. So we will have two titles. From austrian sport federation we are only allowed to have one "staatsmeister" -> that will be the one in matchplay. As far as I know this might change if WMF will decide to do something similiar. E.g. if we would have 2 World champions in the following years, then we could also have 2 Staatsmeister ....
everything clear? Above all - it does not matter. Both are austrian champs. |

17 Jan 2009 at 10:17 | This winter in Italy we discussed about introducing KO-system in national championships. The proposal was not approved, because most people thinks that the national title should be assigned with the traditional stroke system (and I agree with them).
It was only decided to play with KO-System the "Master Final" (a special tournament that is reserved to the best player of the national ranking), just to have a tournament to be played in the same way than EC/WC.
I think this is a good choice by our Federation. The national championship is the most important tournament of the year and it's better that the champion is not elected through a quite eventful system. |

17 Jan 2009 at 10:05 | I think it is a pity that you are only allowed to have one "staatsmeister". But in some way I also understand it,But it should be possible when you decide to play at different types of courses... Then it are different categories, am I right?
Like swimming, 200m, 100m, breaststroke, etc. |
