Playing modus of Portuguese championships 2009

Portugal 02 Apr 2009 at 07:23 | Published by: JJM | Views: 3872 | News search

Playing modus of Portuguese championships 2009 Nuno Cunha gives information from Portugal:

Portuguese individual championships 2009 are decided by the sum of 18 rounds in three competition weekends (6 rounds on each weekend), in three different cities, on two playing systems (beton and eternite).

The first competition weekend was played at the beton and eternite courses of Porto Foz, on 28 February – 1 March 2009. The score differences remained quite small in Porto: 11 best players are within 6 points only. Pedro Carvalho and António Manuel lead the rankings with a tied score 150 points. Nuno Cunha is third with 151 points.

The second competition weekend will be on 4 – 5 April 2009, at the beton and eternite courses of Miraflores, Algés. The third and last competition weekend will be on 16 – 17 May 2009 in Lamego.

There are only 3 felt courses in Portugal. None of the locals where they are built have an active minigolf club. That helps explaining this year's exclusion, but there are other, difficult to explain, reasons.

Dropping felt from this year’s national championship program is a pity. It would be an investment to the future of Portuguese minigolf in international competitions, where felt is becoming more and more common.

Only a small correction:
The CNI will only be played on 2 systems (beton, eternite). This year felt was not included in the competition.
