The first day of Italian League 2009 has been played last weekend in Canegrate (concrete course).
The tournament has been characterized by a very slow playing time, because it started at 8.00 a.m. and the 2nd round ended at about 4.30 p.m.
At 4.30 p.m. a thunderstorm with strong wind came on the course and the jury decided to interrupt the tournament cancelling the third round.
This decision taken by the jury has been contested very much with a lot of discussions and polemics between teams responsibles and the jury itself.
Surely not the best way to start this year league, even if polemics are quite usual in Italian major tournaments...
As regards male team competition, the victory went to the title defender, GSP Vergiate, which won with a total score of 363 strokes (30.3 average), just 3 points ahead of MC Monza (366, 30.5 average) which was 2 points behind after the first round in 3rd place.
2nd place after first round was occupied by GSP Cusano, just 1 stroke behind Vergiate. Cusano ended in 3rd place with a total score of 371 strokes (30,9 average).
4th place for ASDMC Follonica (375 strokes, 31.3 average), 5th place for MT Amatese (378 strokes, 31.5 average), 6th place for MGC Novi Ligure (385 strokes, 32.1 average)
Ladies Team event was won by GSP Cusano, with a total score of 193 strokes (32.2 average), also here with 3 points advantage on the 2nd classified team, MC Monza (196 strokes, 32.7 average). Monza had a 5 strokes gap after the first round and just managed to recover 2 strokes in the second round. 3rd place, with quite a big gap, for GSP Lozza with 210 strokes (35.0 average), 5 points ahead of MGC Novi Ligure which ended in 4th place.
As concerns individual results, 3 players got the lead after 2 rounds with 58 strokes. After playoff the final result was: 1. Paolo Belli, GSP Vergiate (rounds 30-28), 2. Vittorio Bandera, MC Monza (rounds 30-28), 3. Paolo Porta, MGC Novi Ligure (rounds 29-29).
Many players ended with 59 strokes, among them Rudi Giroldini and Massimiliano Ciceri, both from the winning team GSP Vergiate.
The ladies individual ranking was dominated by the actual italian senior champion Antonella Flamini with 59 strokes (round 27-32, playing for MC Aponense but "lended" for team league to GSP Cusano). 2nd place for the actual Italian overall champion Anna Bandera (MC Monza, 61 strokes, rounds 30-31); 3rd place for Sara Marchiani (GSP Cusano, 62 strokes, rounds 31-31).

The 2nd day of 2009 will be played in Naturns (miniaturegolf course) on 17th May, hopefully with less polemics and more played minigolf!! » Results of FIGSP League 1st day » FIGSP League 2009 team rankings » FIGSP League 2009 individual rankings
