The generous but not riskless beton and eternite courses in Lamego, Portugal, continued giving a dramatic and entertaining variety of scores on day 3 of Seniors European Championships 2009.

Tommy Blixt of Sweden broke the world record of 4 rounds beton by 2 points, playing his four beton rounds 22 24 26 23 = 95 (average 23.75). Maria Fuschlberger of Austria became the first player ever to score 22 twice in the same beton tournament. She also equalled women’s world record 73 in 3 rounds of beton minigolf (Bongni standard).

Italy broke the world record of men’s national teams (6 players) in one round of beton, playing team score 150 (average 25.00 per player). The world record of men’s club teams is one point better, 149, played by Uppsala BGK at European Cup 2008.

In team competition of senior women, Sweden fell from top place to bronze during the last two rounds, as Austria took gold with total score 606, Germany silver with score 612, and Sweden got bronze with 616 points.

In senior men’s team competition Italy passed Germany to first place during the last round on beton, and Sweden won the fight for bronze against Switzerland. Total scores of the four best teams: Italy 1171, Germany 1179, Sweden 1193, Switzerland 1207.

The best players of 8 rounds strokeplay were Tommy Blixt (Sweden) and Francesco Leuci (Italy), both with 183 points. Reinhard Schuster of Austria was third best player in strokeplay, with total score 187.

The best female players in 8 rounds strokeplay were Linda Lundberg of Sweden 192 (8th best of all players), Maria Fuschlberger of Austria 194, and Greta Janssens of Belgium 199 — a rare achievement from a Belgian player, certainly one of the big sensations of this tournament. German legend player Gabriele Rahmlow was left 4th in women’s strokeplay, one point behind Janssens.

Tomorrow 16 best women and 32 best women continue with a knock-out cup, to decide the medals of individual matchplay championships.
