Since the Swedish Cup was moving indoors in 2006 the development has being that more teams is interested playing almost every year. When the Swedish Federation now are celebrating the fifth year of indoor play no less than 25 teams will participate. This is one more than last year in Olofström.
Among the favorites we will find last year’s winners Tantogården and their finalist Jönköping. And of course Uppsala would like to have a word about the medals. Other contenders are the Elitserie Teams Kungälv, Södertälje and Sjöviken.
The Tournament is held the 5-6 of January in Vändersborg indoor eternit arena, where it was held also in 2006 for the first time indoors.
The full list of teams follows:
Tuve 2 Teams
Staffanstorp 1 Team
Tyresö 1 Team
Uppsala 1 Team
Laxen 1 Team
Sjöviken 2 Teams
Södertälje 1 Team
Göteborg 3 Teams
Värend 1 Team
Kungälv 2 Teams
Tantogården 1 Team
Askim 1 Team
Gullbergsbro 2 Teams
Jönköping 1 Team
Hårdton IK 2 Teams
Trollhättan BGK 2 Teams
Sundbyberg 1 Team
Last year’s qualifying round including 24 teams where all meet each other in 4 groups was very time-consuming and was not finished until late the first day. This year another team has joined making the total 25 and now the Swedish Federation will need to think if they will still be able to play all-meet each other in the qualifying rounds.
This Modus is by many considered as a charm with the way the Swedish cup is played today. The reason given is often that it make it possible for local talents and smaller teams to for once try on their strength against the start Teams of Elitserien. Even though the Modus has its charm there is a limit on when you can complete it on one day.
