Last weekend Uppsala had to give away their home advantage in the last round of Elitserien played this weekend. The newly mounted eternit plates on the Uppsala course did not meet the quality demands, especially when the temperature was changing. It was not to be a fair competition on those courses.
In a coach telephone conference it was decided to move the last round indoors to the MunktellArenan indoor eternit course. This is known to be the easiest eternit course in Sweden with the extremely low PAR of 18,7 . So it was expected to be many blue rounds and maybe even some blue Team Rounds.
Uppsala had a lead of 4 points before this round and it soon became clear that it was nothing to do about their victory. The team played a really impressive 19,7 in Team average with all matches between 102 and 95. The lowest victory margin was 2 strokes on Tantogården and 3 strokes against Sjöviken, but the rest of the matches were never that thrilling. Uppsala was really the best team this weekend and had also the top 3 best individual players with Anders Olsson on top with 19,1 in average.
Anders have done an astonishing season for his Uppsala, being on top individually in all three rounds and is by far the best player in this year’s Elitserien.
Uppsala will now play in the European Cup on felt in Vienna and will for sure be one of the main favorites for the title. It’s actually hard to see any other team coming even close in Vienna.
It’s also a bit surprising to see that this year’s title is the biggest margin for Uppsala in the last six years where they have won all titles. It was said before this season that it was to be the toughest in many years. But as its says in the songs..”when the going gets though..the though gets going”.
Skoghall was never so much threatened for the silver since their main rivals from Jönköping had a terrible weekend winning only 3 points. Instead it was the newcomers from Sjöviken that secured the bronze by a once again strong team performance winning 10 points. Also Tantogården played a good weekend and by winning 10 points they took the 4th position.
Södertälje was in 5th position and Jönköping could surprisingly be found at 6th position. Tyresö and Kungälv has to leave the Elitserien for next year.
The top 10 players of the season are: (average on eternit, beton, felt and overall)
1. Anders Olsson, Uppsala (19,1), (27,7), (26,1) 72,9
2. Carl-Johan Ryner, Uppsala (19,3), (28,6), (26,1) 74,0
3. Jesper Andersson, Skoghall (20,5), (27,7), (26,4) 74,6
4. Anders Wiklund, Uppsala (20,9), (28,9), (26,1) 75,9
5. Filip Johansson, Sjöviken (19,9), (28,9), (27,3) 76,1
6. Lars Kvael, Skoghall (19,7), (28,7), (27,7) 76,3
7. Jan Åke Persson, Sjöviken (19,9), (28,7), (28,4) 77,0
