Anders Olsson was the king of the field at Swedish championships 2008,
played at the challenging felt and eternite courses of BGK Jönköping.
Anders was only 8th best of all players on eternite, with
average score 22.00,
but his felt game 27.00
was simply perfect — better than what was believed to be a perfect game on this felt course.
Jonas Gustavsson of the local club BGK Jönköping took silver,
with average 28.67
on felt and 21.33 on eternite.
Carl-Johan Ryner had a poor start in the competition, but then he rose to his typical
level of excellence, and took bronze with
average 29.17
on felt and 21.50 on eternite.
European championship medalists of 2006, Peter Eisenschmidt and Erik Tiekstra (Netherlands),
failed to qualify to the 50% of best players, who would continue to the four last rounds of competition.
Eisenschmidt was the best eternite player of the competition, with average score
21.00, but his felt
game 37.25
was simply too much in this country of numerous very talented felt players.
Jessica Rengbrandt took gold in women’s competition,
proving that her superb game at European Cup 2007 was not an accident.
Her average score was
30.17 on felt and
23.67 on the not very easy eternite course.
Sandra Weaver and Karin Wiklund ended up in tied points, 3 points behind the winner Rengbrandt.
Weaver won the sudden death play-off and took the silver medal, leaving Wiklund to bronze.
