Golf joins Olympic SportAccord federation

The Olympic SportAccord federation (formerly known as GAISF / AGFIS) accepted International Golf Federation as a new member, on 27 March 2009. This was a necessary step for golf federation, as it wishes to join the Olympic Games in 2016. The massive Olympic PR campaign of golf federations is lead by professional players Jack Nicklaus and Annika Sörenstam.
Two similar sports cannot be members of the Olympic SportAccord at the same time. World Minigolfsport Federation has been trying to ensure its independent status in SportAccord, as some sport authorities regard golf and minigolf as basically the same sport, two versions of the same game.
