The traditional arch-rivals MGC Bischofshofen and WAT 21 ended up in tied points at the end of Austrian Bundesliga season 2008-2009.
With the score counting system of the previous season (2008), the defending champion WAT21 would have renewed its title. But the new league points system of 2008-2009 season gave the first place to Bischofshofen, with the narrowest imaginable margin:
1. 40 league points 3486 played strokes 111 "round points" MGC Bischofshofen
2. 40 league points 3400 played strokes 107 "round points" WAT 21
3. 24 league points 3609 played strokes 71 "round points" MSC Steyr
4. 10 league points 3622 played strokes 52 "round points" BGC Wien
5. 6 league points 3691 played strokes 39 "round points" MGC Knittelfeld
The rules for 2008-2009 season say that teams are ranked according to league points. In case of tied league points, the teams are ranked according to "round points" (ranking points comparing the scores of teams in every played round of the season), not according to played strokes (as in German Bundesliga).
In women’s league BGCU Rot Gold stole the first place from MGC Knittelfeld, by winning the two last league days at Wasserpark felt course in Wien.
1. 28 league points 1789 played strokes 72 "round points" BGCU Rot Gold
2. 26 league points 1818 played strokes 75 "round points" MGC Knittelfeld
3. 12 league points 1952 played strokes 49 "round points" WAT 21
4. 6 league points 1996 played strokes 32 "round points" BGC Wien
An outcast from the Austrian national team in recent years, European Champion 2004 Heinz Weber was clearly the best player of the season, with 536 played strokes during the season. Manfred Lindmayr was second best player with 551 played strokes during the season, and Rupert Westenthaler third best with 553 played strokes. Csaba Pálinkás of Hungary was 4th best player of the season, with 557 played strokes.
