Günter Inmann stole the show at Austrian strokeplay championships 2009, with average score 26.27 at Dornbirn beton course, a whopping 1.57 points per round better than the second best player in the tournament. A rare thing to happen in a beton tournament, where score differences usually are quite small.
Martin Knapp was second with average 27.86, and Jürgen Patsch took bronze with average 28.14, after a sudden death play-off against Wolfgang Gasser in tied score.
Austrian matchplay championships 2009, on Saturday after the strokeplay competition, was danced to a different tune than the strokeplay tournament. The average survival rate of 9 best players in strokeplay competition was 1 cup match in the knock-out competition (some lost their 1st match, most of top 9 lost their 2nd match, and the rest lost their 3rd match).
Fresh new faces from outside of top 9 took the stage in final rounds of the matchplay competition. Norbert Wagenhofer was simply in fire in matchplay, marching to gold with match scores 5–3, 6–0, 5–2, 7–0, and 5–4 in the final match against Jürgen Juriatti. Ferdinand Jagschitz took bronze in the medal match against Roland Ludescher.
In women’s strokeplay Elisabeth Berger-Rella set the marching order with average 28.14. Elisabeth Gruber was second with average 28.71, and Birgit Heschl third with average 29.86, one point ahead of Andrea Hackl in 4th place.
Women’s matchplay competition turned out to be a nearly identical clone of the strokeplay championships. Elisabeth Gruber won the final match for gold, against Elisabeth Berger-Rella, and Andrea Hackl won the bronze match against Birgit Heschl. » results of strokeplay championships » rsults of matchplay championships » photo gallery of the competition
