Four teams on 10 points in tight Elitserie premiere
It was predicted to be the toughest Elitserie ever and after the first round this prediction seems to come through. OK, Uppsala is on top as usual and predicted after the first felt round in Tyresö, but they lost to two teams normally specialized on the harder surfaces (Tantogården and Skoghall) so this proves that anything can happen this year.
Four teams have five wins and two losses after the first weekend. They are Uppsala, Sjöviken, Skoghall and Jönköping. First of all you must be impressed by Uppsala. Losing two matches to teams making their “match of the weekend”, but an average in the team of 27,3 is astonishing. They also have the top three players in Anders Olsson, Anders Wiklund and Carl-Johan Ryner, all scoring 183 on 7 rounds (26,1).
It was predicted that they newcomer Sjöviken from south Sweden should be a strong contender maybe all the way to the medals and their first weekend surely proved this prediction true. Top performers in Sjöviken was Filip Johansson (27,3) and Daniel Källström (27,6).
Most surprisingly is the great performance of Skoghall. 10 points and better stroke than Jönköping is a remarkable result for the "Värmlands"-team on the felt surface. Now they are for sure a contender to the medals since they have their best surfaces to go. Best in Skoghall this weekend was Jesper Andersson (26,4) and Filiph Svensson (26,6).
Jönköping had a terrible start the first match on Saturday only scoring 150 and losing against Tantogården. Then they won five straight matches and ended losing to Uppsala in the last game. Top players for Jönköping this weekend was Martin Sjöberg (26,4) and Markus Karlsson (26,7).
Tantogården is on fifth place with 6 points and the other newcomer Tyresö is on 6th place with 4 points playing on home soil. Same points by Södertälje and last is Kungälv. The two last teams where the only two teams not making a blue overall team average.
A new Swedish Record over one lap of felt was made by Filiph Svensson scoring an incredible 21 round in the match against Kungälv. This is also one stroke below the current world record that is 22. But it will not be counted as a new world record since they can only be set in International WMF or EMF arranged Championships.
As reported yesterday some other records over two laps and team records were also set this weekend. Before this weekend the current record for five-man club teams in Sweden was 139. This was beaten 13 times with the lowest scored by Uppsala on 130. The game between Tantogården and Uppsala ending 133-134 is probably the score wise best felt match ever played.
Team of the weekend is:
Anders Olsson, Uppsala, 26,1
Anders Wiklund, Uppsala, 26,1
Carl-Johan Ryner, Uppsala, 26,1
Jesper Andersson, Skoghall, 26,4
Martin Sjöberg, Jönköping, 26,4
