Austrian veteran player Karl Lakos opened the year with the round of his life, 21 points on a beton course (100% size), at Enns Hallenturnier on 5–6 January 2008.

Lakos finished third in the competition, with his rollercoaster performance 29 27 32 28 21 = 27.40. The first place was shared by Marc Cervinka and Peter Helm, with an average score 26.60.

The official world record on beton courses is 20 points, played by Anders Olsson of Sweden in 2006. (The unofficial record is 18 points, played by Stefan Björk of Sweden in a small competition, which was not considered official for world records.)

This is only the second time in history that an Austrian player scores 21 points on beton. Simon Schatz was the first Austrian to achieve this score, in Austrian junior championships 2007.
