After two days of Minigolf under the Italian Dolomite sun the German Men team has got a firm grip on the gold and the Swiss ladies likewise.
On the men’s side it was a brilliant show by the German men’s Team in the morning eternit round. With the New World Record for National Team score of 18-19-20-20-18-19 = 114 they probably made the golden rush from the other teams already before lunchtime. The old world record was held by Switzerland from Steyr in 2005 and was 116 strokes. This round was 10 and 12 strokes better than medal chasing Austria and Switzerland although they also made quite decent eternit rounds.
On the only Beton lap the Germans continued their total crush of their opponents by setting the lowest round so far to 169 (27-33-29-27-27-26). This is a absolutely brilliant result on these very tough Beton Courses. The lane statistics says it all. Only two courses on the Beton have an average under 1.5 (lane 11 and 18).
The Germans concluded their day by winning also the third eternit round with a more normally good score of 120. All and all the Germans now have a margin of 44 strokes and nothing could stop them from bringing home the gold tomorrow.
In second position Switzerland had a good day today and took over the silver position from Austria. Austrian is still in bronze position. Its relatively big margin of 16 strokes down to 4th placed Italy so it seems like these three are the medalists.
Individually best today was Achim Braungart-Zink with 18-27-19 = 64. Other players playing well today are Alexander Geist (65) and Harald Erlbruch (66). Alexander Geist is also best individually with 143 followed by his Team mates Achim Braungart-Zink (144), Miroslav Stoparic (144) and Harald Erlbruch (146).
As much as the Germans are dominating the Men’s category, so far has the Swiss ladies dominated the ladies category. Lead by the top two individually best players Yvonne Klukas, that passed her team mate Melanie Blaser today, the Swiss ladies now have 15 strokes down to Germany in second position and 16 strokes down to Austria in third.
The German ladies continued their good play on the eternit today where they gained 10 strokes by a sharp 60 (22-19-19) on the Swiss Team. But on the Beton the Swiss ladies rules and won by 11 strokes over the Germans and have a very good possibility of securing the Team Gold tomorrow. But if the Germans or Austrians can get their act together on the both Eternit and Beton tomorrow it can be a tight race.
Best individually today amongst the ladies have been Yvonne Klukas with 80 (29- 22-29). On the last Beton round of the day she was alone lady to achieve a green under 30 lap. Also Bianca Oberweg (82), Stefanie Kern (84) and Elisabeth Gruber (84) have played a good second day.
Tomorrow another two laps will conclude the Team competition before the Individual match play on Saturday.
