Miroslav Čibik, a 16 years old minigolfer from Slovakia, won our public vote for Minigolf Photo of the Year 2010 — now for second year in a row. Čibik won the vote also last year.
The winning photo received 7.7 % of the votes, only 0.4 % more than the second most voted photo, “Volcano”, taken by professional sport photographer Helmut Ploberger, Austria. Third place in the vote went to a rainy photo taken by Arto Borg, Finland, with 5.8 % of the votes.
Leader of the vote was actually a British photo of a backyard minigolf course, when the poll closed on 14 February 2011, after 137 users had voted in the poll. But the admins of minigolfnews.com paid attention to the large number of new users that registered to our website during the vote, nearly all of them giving 10 points to the British backyard photo, and tactically 0 points to all other top 5 photos in the poll.
As the identity of these mysterious new voters was investigated more closely, we found out that many of these users had certainly false identities, or in any case they were completely unknown to experienced key members of British Minigolf Association. We decided to cancel the website membership and votes of as many as 26 newly registered but completely unknown users. The remaining 111 votes, excluding these 26 unknown users, we have published as the final results of the vote for Minigolf Photo of the Year 2010.
20 photos were nominated to the vote by Minigolfnews.com staff, based on submissions from the public and our own findings in online minigolf photo galleries.» results and photos of the vote
